Now that Rowan was finally alone with Wren, the stillness of the night wrapped around them like a comforting embrace. Wren took Rowan's hand and started to lead him to the house, but Rowan pulled him in the other direction.
"Let's go back to the pond. It's so beautiful tonight. I'd like to look at it with you."
The clouds parted and the moonlight caught them in its reflection, reminding Rowan of the first time he'd seen Wren, when he was nothing more than a broken soul, a garnet mist that had cared enough to heal Rowan's wounds even then.
"It *is* beautiful tonight." Wren's gentle smile fell on Rowan like a caress. His eyes were filled with stars. "Where my Caretaker goes, I will follow. Always."
