Something flickered across Wren's face as he locked eyes with Nicasi. A moment of desperation, perhaps. Or a longing that contrasted with his harsh words.
The feeling that had been with Nicasi from the moment Wren appeared to him at the Branch grew even stronger. Yes, Rowan was in pain and yes, he was still asleep, but was it possible the dreaded Prince of Illusions had brought him here at least in some small way simply because he wanted to open up to someone?
Wren's eyes darkened, and Nicasi realized he'd been too obvious with what he was thinking.
"I said that's enough. I warned you not to be nosy." When Wren moved to push Nicasi's hands away from Rowan, Nicasi flipped his wrist and grabbed Wren's arm instead.
