Loma sank down in the chair and stared at Rowan with wide eyes. "What is happening to me?"
"My father would know the answer to that," Wren said. "The least he could do is explain it to you before he starts using you as his messenger."
She sighed sadly at the game board. "I still want to play. I can't explain it, but I feel like I'm going to burst."
Wren squatted to retrieve the scattered pieces, and Rowan hurried to help. Loma began to cough, and Rowan put a hand between her shoulder blades as her body shook with the effort. Her fever burned through the thin material of her clothes. Wren vanished into the house, and returned a moment later with Rowan's only drinking glass filled with water. Loma accepted it with a weak smile.
"Why don't you let me take you home so you can rest? I will sit with you there." Rowan said when her coughing fit subsided.
