Wren tensed and stepped in front of Rowan. Nicasi passed between the trees, close enough that he would have noticed them if Wren hadn't cloaked them in illusion. The look of concern on his face was unmistakable as he scanned the woods. Rowan could only assume Nicasi was searching for him.
"That one needs to turn around and go back to the hole he crawled from. What is he doing here, all alone without Lysander to protect him? He might get hurt."
The darkness in Wren's voice made Rowan shiver with a mix of worry and excitement. He wondered if he would ever not be excited by that danger that he really should be more concerned about. It was always there, just under the surface, and Rowan loved knowing that he was the only one who could influence it one way or the other.
"He will not get hurt, do you hear me?" Rowan grabbed Wren's arm, surprised to discover he could feel the other man's magic vibrating under his skin. "Control yourself."
