The hospital was solely focused on pregnant women and childbirth for the first year it was established since it served as a temporary residence for expecting women.
Once they knew that they are close to giving birth, they go to the hospital and stay until they give birth and recuperate enough for both the mother and baby to be able to safely ride a carriage.
During the winter, they had to stay in the hospital for a longer period of time due to the cold and dangers on the road.
Only those who lived several minutes away by carriage were allowed to go back to their residence.
Likewise, only in winter did they begin to accept sick or injured people that needed treatment since winter increased the number of people who get sick while there were lower childbirths.
