Chapter 3 - 3. Level-1

With uncertainty and eagerness, Jegan opened the black book which was bound with exotic leather. He sensed a slight familiarity to the book as he held it. He felt as though he had opened this particular book multiple times.

I am writing this as a remembrance of the future. When I woke up a few weeks ago. I was in a forest with no memories with a hole in my abdomen with several injuries and internal bleeding. The armor I wore was shattered, I might have been a warrior in the past, My well-trained body said otherwise. But I have no knowledge of such past.

Jegan stopped reading for a second as sweat slowly slid from his temple. The reason was not the searing sun but the dread of the unknown.

Now that he noticed he appeared similar to what was mentioned in his journal.

He was a man with a muscular physique with a few scars around his body which highlighted that he is a warrior. His hair was long enough to reach his shoulder and to match that he possessed a long beard which made him similar to a caveman. His eyes were hazel and his skin tone was dark.

"Similar to my current situation..."

He phrased and looked at the distance where a mountain caught his attention. It was the location he was traveling to since waking up, as there weren't any other locations that seemed closer to this rotten land.

He shook his head and focused back on the book.

I want to write this in more detail recently I am being trailed by the huntsmen and I might be killed within a few days however my regenerative trait might help in those certain situations. As I believe that I've been assassinated a few times in the past. More importantly, I am gifted with a trivial power called a system.

I chose to become a farmer in the village near the forest. I didn't want to end up in a battle and lose my life and lead a peaceful life. However, fate is something that cannot be escaped. The villagers were fond of me and helped me heal my wounds so I helped them. But one day a few soldiers sent by the baron came to collect tax and when the poor villagers weren't able to pay the soldiers committed some atrocious deeds and finally came to me.

As an outsider to this land and just a few days into farming, I earned far less than the village folks...

"What?"

Jegan stopped in shock.

The journal was stopped there. He quickly turned to the next page.

I went through the first page a day ago. I woke up in a similar situation and this time I found myself in the same location he mentioned. But, the surprising thing is that the village was destroyed. I have this odd power called system and the regenerative trait mentioned before. Yet, I have no recollection of I was killed or why I have lost my memories.

By any means, I have decided to venture into finding the truth. I have the survival manual, This journal, a trivial pill, and a dagger.

The survival manual gives essential information on warfare, sword handling, and mainly it directs one to commit to any means in order to survive. Once you start reading it'll just ask you to make it as a skill in the system when you accept you'll be provided with the most valuable skill out there.

Also, today I was attacked by the espers as soon as I woke up. I killed them and fled from there and took shelter inside the forest.

"..."

He stopped reading and stared at the distance for a while.

"A Repetitive cycle without any clues..."

He closed the journal and opened the survival manual. As soon as he opened the thick red book his eyebrows shot up in surprise.

There was no content within it. He was perplexed and quickly turned the pages of the book yet, he found nothing.

"Was it a lie?"

He thought.

He was certain and believed what was mentioned in the book but, contrarily the survival manual was useless. However, in a span of five seconds, the book in his hand began glowing and the golden window once again appeared before him.

[Do you want to acquire the skill Survival manual]

[Yes/No]

As mentioned in the journal he was given the option to acquire the skill.

"Hmm, So it's true then..."

He nodded his head in fascination and selected yes. Quickly the book in his hand turned into dust.

[New skill acquired]

[Open information tab to review contents in detail.]

There was no reason for him to refuse such a convenient skill.

"Huh!"

He exclaimed.

"How do I open the system."

Just as before how he opened void, the system appeared before him.

[Survival manual (Grade: 1) ]

[A skill that lends you hand in times of misfortune. An essential skill that is fed with the knowledge of this world. The skill will activate on its own.]

"A simple display of my overall statistics, I believe. The survival manual seems useful as well. I don't understand the concepts of grade and class... Seems quite hard to take all these in a swift. I believe I'll slowly learn these. Though the title makes me feel troubled..." He thought and turned towards his back where the dead eaters were located at.

[Survival manual activated]

[New quest: Kill the begrudging monsters]

[You are being trailed by the dead eaters! Make them perish to escape from the curse of being leeched for your entirety of life.]

He was not alarmed but rather ready to kill the vile monsters that were following him since he was already in the idea to slay them.

"Wretched creatures..."

He commented holding his dagger.

As soon as they laid their eyes on him they instinctually felt the malice Jegan expelled. He is not an efficient hunter nor a proper warrior who has trained in warfare according to his mind which has lost its memories yet, his body was familiar with wielding a dagger.

His eyes precisely targetted the dead eaters scattered around the area. This is where his path starts, A Journey in retaining the hideous mystery behind his identity.
