The valley's people cheered. Danny's family followed suit, yet had been glancing at each other in silent questions. But they still did not know for what objective Danny was being given a name. There were few duties that such anointing was used for: elders of clans, soldiers, priests, or dukes. Danny was too young to be an elder or a priest.
Could he be a knight? No, that's impossible. A soldier perhaps? He was not a born Catholic, so priesthood was not likely. Kingship was off-topic. Elfy was clearly the saint chosen for the warrior elder council. The people grumbled and discussed amongst themselves.
Damia's father gathered up the strength to ask Elfy what everyone else was wondering. "Pray, do tell, Sir Elfy, for what purpose is my son being anointed?"
Elfy gave a long, hard gaze at Danny's father, who felt his skin crawl with the righteousness of the elder.
