Chapter 32 - Pilgrimage of Dreams 32

The fourth member that third urchin recommend was the second young master of the Kuthal Ducal.

The young boy has a thick raven hair, his eyes as dark as the bottomless pit.

He was standing among us quietly, aside from his initial introduction, he rarely spoke. He will reply in one or two short sentence if we talk to him but he does rarely take the initiative to strike up a conversation.

I like quiet kids.

My impression on this kid is good.

**

There are quite a number of adventurers inside the adventure guild. Probably, they must be here to take up mission as well.

The inside of the Allecrick adventure guild is spacious and somewhat grand.

Anyway, I am not here to appreciate the place.

"Let's look up the mission board and choose the most suitable one"

The others agreed to my proposal.

There is a board that was placed on the side room. A bulletin papers where various mission are issued and can be taken up are put up in the board.

Reading the various mission available that was paste one by one take up quite a bit of time.

There are a numbers of mission that was very fitting to take up, it also align with our intention of why we create a decoy guild.

There are a numbers of fitting mission indeed…

"Ruru, the mission you choose is not very worth it. But if it's what you choose, I agree to everything"

The astrologer said waving her hand in the air cutesily.

Third urchin looks at me, silent…

… After a long pause, he mumbles "Somewhat good-hearted…"

I took a breath and loosen my sudden tight hold on Kairos when I heard such nonsense mumble.

It's better to ignore this third son.

"Are we doing this?"

I ask for their confirmation.

"Un"

The quiet kid was the first to give his confirmation.

"I already said I agreed"

The astrologer girl follows.

"Whatever, you're the guild leader" Third urchin nonchalantly gave his agreement "Rats are disgusting anyway" He add.

The monster that we are going to handle is called Zoog.

Zoog is a small, rat like creature with wide startled eyes and a ring of tendrils around their mouth, Zoog travel the world in close-knit family groups, stealing food and pilfering treasures at every opportunity.

Zoog has a dark vision and their perception to danger is extremely high.

They are not so strong per-se, but they are in large number which when combines can be term them as a high level monster.

Zoog are deceptive and are good at hiding, typical trait of rats that are good at hiding away in the sewer. Tsk…

Coming to the main mission content, the Zoog have taken over an abandoned mine and burrowed a habitat in it. That was not a problem if its only that but those Zoog have stolen livestock of the villagers that was living nearby the abandoned mine.

They also would harm the villagers when day times fall.

They would not be so hateful if its' only that but the disgusting rats have the guts to try and take away an infant. The villagers was in high vigilance to protect the infant, all new born are placed in one room and was surrounded and protected by the villagers whenever night time arrived.

They are hopeless and devastated with the Zoog rampaging in the village, the village head has sent a distressed letter to the adventure guild a week ago but due to transportation lagging, the letter reach only after four days have passed. Not to mention, the hassle to deal with large number of Zoog and luring them out from their hiding place that was hard to find, most adventurers don't seem to be willing to take up the mission.

The price offer was also not very tempting. It was after all the only price villages could afford.

That left quite a bad taste on the tongue when hearing the reason on why the mission was not taken up until now.

Of course, people are not entitled to lend a hand even if they can. Ultimately, it is their own' choice.

The adventure guild mostly waited for a week or so to see whether any adventurer will take up the mission, if no adventure took up the mission after a week, the adventure guild will then inform the emperor and then let the guards of the empire handle the case.

Sometimes, the nobles will take up the quest to earn merits. But that's a rare case because to earn merits, the mission has to be a lot higher than a mere level of subduing Zoog.

We continue to listen carefully to Lina who gave us various information we would never seek to know.

The Zoog mission has sat on the board for exactly five days since its arrival.

How are the villagers still faring?…

"I wonder how the villagers are faring"

My thought and third urchin voice echoed at the same time.

"Why didn't any one offer a help?"

Third urchin has a deep frown on his face.

"…Bunch of selfish bastards" He continued, arriving at his own conclusion as to why no adventurers who obviously is strong enough to deal with Zoog does not step forward to help.

I look away from his scowling face and instead look around the people who was walking or chatting with their companion.

If police…

If security…

If the government…

Hmm…. If information…

I realize, this world severely lack in giving a sense of security. The social development, commercial as well as technology.

Those social workers… the government plan on giving credits to people who have a lot of social work. This world does not appreciate good deeds enough. It seems scarce to be exact.

Or maybe, in this particular country.

Just from this situation as well as those winter times when I visit the orphanage…

This country ruler only fulfils the bare minimum.

Peace and security seems lacking for the commoners and bottom echelon of the society. Not that they are treated as animals or anything but the disparity between the rich and the poor, the nobles and the commoners is too large.

It's not right to arrive in a conclusion just from this vague insight though, I could only make my own speculation based in what I see and experience so what can I do? I will arrive at whatever conclusion I want.

Maybe, this must be the norm for this empire but for me who came from a deceitful place like earth where social security and benefit was kind of better especially compare to this place, yeah, this world is lacking in peace.

My previous world indeed is also chaotic but at least, it was somewhat decent on the surface. There exist the dark side of society but an average commoner like me are not much in contact with the dark side of the society.

'We' are protected quite well I suppose.

"Hah…."

I took a breath and expel some air a bit slowly.

I…

I… will I?…

"Yo leader, when do you think we should go?"

Third urchin raises his chin towards me and asked.

The look in his eyes seems a bit impatient.

"I think it's better we set off as early as possible, who knows what the situation of the village is right now"

Ah… that must be why his gaze looks impatient. He was worried about the villagers.

"Let's set out today itself"

"That's fine by me"

The astrologer girl was not needed to be asked as she will agree right away to whatever decision I made.

As for the quite kid, he gave a simple nod and so, Alora guild had taken its first mission and was on their way to complete the set task.
