Chereads / His Vengeful lover / Chapter 60 - Petty

Chapter 60 - Petty

As soon as they stepped into the restaurant, Emily's sight fell on Eric, who was walking with a woman to the VIP section. "such bad luck,"  she could not help but complain. She had just gotten to the resort, yet she had to run into people she would instead not meet.

She did not take Lisa seriously, but she knew that after what happened at the mega restaurant, Lisa would try to take Revenge. Lisa was not rational when they were young; even after several years, she remained petty. Emily could tell from her behaviour that she had not grown a bit. So Emily was sure that Lisa would blame her for it.

Even when Emily was a spoiled princess, she was never the type to go seeking trouble, but Lisa wanted to have everyone in high school bow to her. At that time, Lisa's father was the governor of a northern state in Ua; Emily never bothered to know after Quee was the country's capital and a north governor's influence was small.

Emily never bothered to compete with her, so it surprised her why she continued trying to cause trouble for her. Because Emily's parents back then cared about her safety, her identity was kept hidden.

Emily always thought it was because she refused to bow to her that Lisa hated her(Emily) so much. She did not know it was because of her close relationship with her cousin's brother, who was the senior  Lisa liked.

Lisa did not know that the two were related since they had different last names. Emily did not realise that her eyes had been following Eric and his female partner as she walked towards the VIP section with Wilfred.

Wilfred noticed that she was absent-minded and thought the group of girls ruined her mood. It was not until they got to their table that he noticed that she was looking in a particular direction.

He followed her and saw that she was looking at a man. Wilfred recognised Eric at first glance; he felt displeased that she was looking at him for such a long time it was a known fact that he was the most sort after Batchelor.

"you like him?" Wilfred swallowed the bitter pill and asked. His voice finally woke Emily up. "who?" she asked, looking at him.

"Eric Brown," Wilfred tried to sound as casual as possible. Emily rolled her eyes. Although she knew she had some feelings for Eric, she would not admit it to herself, let alone to another person.

When she saw Eric smiling at the lady he was with, she frowned. Although she did not know the lady's face, she could tell she was different from the one he was with at the party. Hatred flashed her eyes when she thought she could be his relative.

Emily had an aunt and was close to her senior cousin, but she was already dead to them, so even if she wanted to comfort her aunt, she could not contact them since she did not like them in the mix.

Although she had no reason to doubt her aunt, who was her mother's elder sister, she could not trust that they would stand by her side unconditionally. She would rather have a good memory than contact them and be betrayed. All this was Brown's fault.

"I hate him," Emily said, her gaze becoming hostile, and Wilfred noticed it. He felt very relieved that she did not fall for Eric. But this also made him panic; Eric was an outstanding man; if she did not even admire him, Wilfred felt his chances were small.

On the other hand, Emily felt guilty after saying that she hated Eric. A small voice in her mind reminded her that everything was his father's fault and it had nothing to do with him.

Emily shook her head; even if he was not involved and knew nothing about what his father had done, Eric was her enemy because he was the son of the man who killed her entire family.

Her two brothers were also innocent, and if she were not in the toilet that day, she would have been long dead. Emily refused to listen to the voice in her head.

"Let's order," Wilfred felt they had gone to the wrong place. Emily seems to encounter those that ruin her mood, so she could only think of a way to distract her from Eric.

Emily picked up the menu, and although she no longer wanted to eat, she could not be selfish; after all, Wilfred had been a good friend, and when she was in Nam, he was a great help.

On the other hand, Eric felt a burning gaze, but he ignored it since many people had been looking at him since he arrived.

He had come to the resort with Annabel because of his mother's call the previous evening. When his mother had called to ask about Annabel, he told her at once that he was not sure if he wanted to marry her.

"you don't like her?" his mother asked. Eric did not know how to answer this question. He neither liked nor hated her. She was very sensible, so he did not know what to say. They did not care about feelings; what was important was a character, and Annabel had done nothing to complain about.

"I don't know her well yet," Eric found an excuse to push his mother off for some time. He did not know that his mother had expected him to say that.

Mrs Brown was satisfied with Annabel, so when her friend called her to ask if Eric had said anything, she decided to give him a little push.  She believes that as long as Eric spends more time with Annabel, they will learn to get along.

"That is what I am saying; you should go on more dates with her. Tomorrow is Saturday, so invite her out," she said.

Eric felt he had fallen into his mother's trap; since he had already said he needed time to know her, he could not argue with her suggestions. He could only hope that Annabel already had other plans. Unfortunately, she agreed once he suggested it. Eric did not know a lot of places, so Annabel suggested they visit the resort because she heard That Eric was good at shooting.

"How was your week?" Annabel felt delighted that Eric had called her. She was unaware of her mother and his mother's involvement. She just thought that she had left a good impression on him, which is why he asked her out on a date.
