After Mr Martin's driver helped him back to the car and drove away, his friend continued to stand in the parking lot. He stared in the direction that the car went.
Just then, his phone rang. The man had a nervous smile when he saw the caller. He sighed and then picked up the call. "Hello..." he tried to sound calm.
"Did you get the information?" The caller went straight to the point. One could tell from the caller's voice that he was anxious.
"yes," the man answered.
"Tell me," the caller said.
"He does not know the person who helped him; they never met," the man replied.
"What? Are you a fool? Can't you tell that he was lying to you?" the caller was angry. His job was at stake, and he needed to get a little clue. He would be done if he could not even provide his boss with a good lead.
"I am not a fool, and I can tell he was not lying; many people fear ABM; I am sure whoever helped him wanted to protect himself," the man argued. He knew his friend best, and this was not the first time he had deliberately got him drunk to get information from him.
"nonsense, can there be a transfer of shares without any trace? Let me tell you this, Henry, if I go down, I will pull you with me," The caller threatened and hung up.
Henry was scared. Years ago, his company faced some challenges, His goods were seized in the sea, and he did not have enough money to clear them. So Henry had gone to meet Mr Martin for help, but at that time, Mr Martin had told him that he would love to help, but he did not have the money required. To Henry, Martins did not want to help and only used a stupid excuse to refuse him.
Henry was selfish, and he only cared about himself and no one else, so he felt Martin could have loaned him some money to save his company, even if it meant taking out of his company's reserves or working fund. After all, he was into buying and selling; as long as his goods arrived safely, he would have been able to pay Martin back. He forgot that since the goods had been held in the sea for so long, many of the goods might have been damaged, or worse, the goods could have gone missing.
Since Martin did not help, his company had bankrupt. He blamed Martins for this and hated him from that time. But he never showed it; after all, Martins still helped pay his children's school fees and gained little benefits for him.
Martin had allowed him to join his company, his pay was more than other managers in the company, and he enjoyed a lot of privilege as Martin's friend. Even when they became employer and Employee, Martin still treated him as a friend and never looked down on him. But Henry was not satisfied; he was jealous of Martin. Although it had been over two years, and he had managed to hide his hatred, Henry jumped at the first offer to betray his friend and benefit himself.
A few months ago, someone from Sunlight entertainment contacted him. As long as he helped with some secret information that could crumble Daystar, he would be paid a reasonable sum, and he could continue to work with Sunlight after it acquired Daystar. Henry was not interested in working in Sunlight; he believed that if that money was paid, he could return to his business. This time he would be the one on top, and he could finally vent his hatred.
So Henry was happy to help Sunlight, in the past two years, he did not do anything that could affect the company as he knew that he would also lose if that happened.
After agreeing, he helped Sunlight, who was backed by ABM, to attack Daystar. Everything was going smoothly, he had been the one informing Sunlight each time Daystar had an investor. But who knew that just when sunlight entertainment had driven Daystar and Martin to a corner, Martin would encounter help?
The man had already paid half of the money promised him; if he wanted at this point, he could leave the country and live an average life with his family, but Henry could not bear to see Martin continue enjoying life. He was extremely jealous. Why did he not meet a saviour when his company was in trouble?
Moreover, he had done all the dirty work; now that the man had threatened to pull him down, Henry knew that he might lose all he had and even end up in jail.
"No, no," Henry did not want things to end this way. If he could not get what he wanted, then he would pull Martin down with him. After all, once the caller exposed him, Martin would not continue to help him. He took out his phone and made a call.
"I need a favour," he said after the person picked up.
"Martin Residence.
" you are drunk again, " Mrs Martin said when she saw her husband being helped by the driver and security man. She was heartbroken. She had noticed that something terrible would happen whenever her husband got drunk.
" Relax, ABM would be more interested in my saviour than me, " Martin said. His wife was displeased, but she shut her mouth and waited for the driver and security man to leave.
"I will leave you to sleep here tonight," She said, adjusting him on the couch in the living room before going to her room. They used to live in a big house but almost became homeless in the last few months.
Although life was no longer as comfortable as it used to be, they still had a three-bedroom apartment to fall back to. Mrs Martin would not be able to take it if anything wrong should happen again.
Her husband had promised to stop getting drunk as he was fond of forgetting what happened once he was drunk, so she was disappointed that he returned home drunk the same day he made the promise.
She just hoped that nothing terrible happened, they still had two children to support, and her husband's new boss seemed dangerous. If something should go wrong because of his carelessness, Mrs Martin knew that they would be done for. So she decided to leave him without helping him change his clothes. Maybe when she ignored him, he would take her words seriously and stop getting drunk even if he attended a formal event.
