Emily knew from the beginning that Eric was looking for an excuse to eat dinner with her, she did not just expect him not to keep pretending after they got to the restaurant.
"My day was the usual, " She replied. There were no details. It was like she was bringing the conversation to a close.
"Oh, what is a usual day for you? " Eric asked. He knew she was trying to irritate him, but he was unwilling to play along.
"Work, '' Emily answered. This time it was a single word.
"Then you must be stressed; remember not to tire yourself too much, " Eric advises. His voice was filled with care. Emily did not expect him to be able to carry on the conversation even with her answer.
"I did not know Mr. Brown cared about others so much, " Emily muttered. It was like she was mocking Eric for being a hypocrite.
"I don't care about others, just you? " Eric replied. He sounded like he was stating a fact.
