Chapter 2 - Revenge is a meal best served cold.

"We are out of time to let go. Mr Brown will be disappointed if things get worse." The first man who spoke countered. He was confident to call the name of the person who sent them because he believed they were alone.

"We were sent to kill them all, how can we leave without finishing the mission" the other man disagreed.

"I know that, but our boss is down, we need to get him to the hospital. We also have three dead men. Besides, the police will be here shortly, do not forget the William family is not a pushover. We already used up the time given to us by that man. We don't have enough time to search the place. It is too huge," another argued.

After deliberating for a minute, the men left without searching for her. It seemed that at that point, escaping from the place was their top priority. One of them released a bullet into her mother's chest as they walked away. "Just to make sure," he said and walked away.

Emily, who was hoping that her mother did not get shot and just maybe if she got her to the hospital on time, they would be able to save her, felt pain watching her get shot. These men were too ruthless, they did not even forget to shoot at her mother.

She stood fixed, looking out at the lifeless body of her family that was eating and laughing some minutes ago. She kept looking, not daring to get closer to them; she might be unable to lift her foot even if she wanted to anyway. "The man said to kill them all," she whispers. "Does that mean they were only looking for me to kill me, too?" she asked herself as she felt sudden darkness take over.

.....

When she opened her eyes again, it was already two days after the incident. The family's most trusted subordinate was sitting by her bedside.

"Where are my parents," Emily asked, hoping all that she saw was just a dream. A nightmare. Hoping that the man would tell her that her father went to work or on a business trip, her mother went shopping or attended some tea party, and her brothers were at school.

"I am sorry, miss," Jude replied.

Tears flowed from Emily's eyes as she remembered the scene. "No, no" she did not want to believe her memory. She had lost her entire family in one day, no, in a few minutes.

"Calm down," Jude tried to comfort her, but he was not good with this kind of situation.

"Why? Why would someone want to wipe out her family from the earth? Mr Brown," she whispers, balling her figures into a fist.

"I want to see their body," Emily requested after the pause. She wanted to see her parent for the last time as she somehow doubted the image in her mind.

"I am sorry, miss, but you can't. We already buried everyone yesterday," he replied.

"What! Could you not at least wait till I woke up" Emily shouted, getting off the bed. "At least let me go say goodbye," she said as tears ran down her eyes. She wanted to scold him for taking the chance she had to say goodbye, but it was difficult to form the words as she was overwhelmed with grief.

"I am sorry, miss," Jude apologize. He had buried them because he did not dare let her see them again. Especially since he was trying to hide the truth about Emily still being alive.

"can I at least visit their graveside?" she asked while trying to control her tear. It was tough to accept that her world had been turned inside out.

"I apologize, miss, but you can't go there either," Jude answered emotionless.

"What do you mean. I am fine and perfectly healthy. I can handle it," Emily replied, thinking that he was concerned about her health.

"I know you are fine, but you will not be going there. There are still people after your life," he explained.

Emily breath in and out to control her raging emotions. How could she miss her family mass funeral or not visit their graveside?

"When can I visit them?" she asked when she managed to calm down a bit. She heard the conversation with her ears, so she knew Jude was rejecting her for her good.

"Not anytime soon, the whole world thinks you are dead," Jude said flatly.

"What do you mean?" Emily shocked.

"I faked your death. You will have to remain dead to stay alive," Jude explains.

"No, you want me to hide, knowing what that man did to my parents, my family, Never," Emily declared and tried to storm out of the room, but Jude caught her by her wrist. She tried to put on a fight, but Emily was not his match.

"What do you think you are doing. If you show up anywhere close to him, you are dead meat. You are a William, put your shit together, control," Jude said with obvious irritation.

"Spoiled brat," Jude curses her in his head. Honestly, he felt sorry for her, but there was no way he would express it to her. He knew that she had been spoiled by the entire family, but now that they were all dead, she needed to raise and protect what was left of her family.

"What do you mean?" Emily asked as she tried to calm herself down.

"The company's stocks have fallen, we had to sell it off. You need to leave the country and..." Jude was saying when Emily interrupted him.

"How is that possible, our..."

"Don't interpret me, young lady," Jude snapped at her blabbing. He knew, she knew nothing about the company. She has been treated like a princess all her life without any worries. Unlike her brothers, that were trained to become the heirs of the family business. "As I was saying, you will change your identity and go abroad and stay there for a while."

Emily just looked at the man with disbelief. Her family was strong and feared. Since when did the Williams hide like chickens, she wondered to herself.

"I want to avenge my family," Emily said when he was done talking. She will never go hiding, she would rather die with the enemy than hide like a coward. So what was the use of living anyway?

"You will, but revenge is a meal best served cold," Jude replied. "We are too weak to fight the Browns now. So we need to lay low and build up quietly. If we try anything now, we will be crushed. So brace yourself." Jude replied.

Emily thought about what Jude said; indeed, she was too weak to go against the man that ruined her family. She knew that her family had always shielded her from the darkness in the world. It was okay to die while taking revenge, but how would she face her family in the life after if she died without doing that. If she will ever get the chance to get back at that man, she must rebuild her family power first. She must be strong enough to be his opponent.

After thinking in this direction, she decided to agree with Jude. Seeing this, Jude handed over her new travel documents.
