During lunch in the afternoon, Olivia ensured to share a table with the person from Steam. They have been working together for some time, so he did not find it strange.
"Miss Olivia," his voice was polite, and he had a friendly smile. If one looks closely, it would be seen that he was a bit surprised to see her take the initiative to share a table with him.
"Mr Peter," Olivia smiled. This was not the first time she shared a table with him during lunch, so it did not raise any attention.
Peter was a man in his late twenties. He was dedicated to his work and had zero social life. In the past few months, his mother had been bringing up the topic of marriage. He would often find a way around it, but when he first met Olivia, he was attracted to her and decided to get close to her.
Olivia was not ignorant of this fact. Instead, she thought to take advantage of it, but Peter was very tight lips. When he mentioned the evidence to her yesterday, she had thought he was sending a warning from Steam, but after careful consideration, she realised that he must have told her to save her a lot of trouble. After all, this would indirectly affect her work.
Olivia had thought long and hard about how to bring him over to her side. Since Eric did not care about her for the time being, she could fool around with this man to get him to cooperate.
To Olivia, there was nothing better than money; for instance, Eric was a bright young man but would marry a stupid woman like Annabel and clear her mess because of family wealth and power.
After seeing how Eric was determined to help Annabel, despite his seeming to like Emily, she felt that even a man's love could not be trusted.
Olivia had noticed since the FF party that Eric was attracted to Emily, so she spread baseless rumours to discourage him. She would have thought that her plans worked until she saw the look in his eyes at Rosy Rose the previous night. So how could she continue to fool herself?
She had to wake up and look at the bigger picture. Moreover, if Steam suffered, Emily's social status would reduce; when that happens, there would be one less person to fight for Eric's attention. If she is allowed to handle the government project alone, she will gain a lot of experience, not to talk of the big bounce. In the end, she had to plan for herself. So she decided to work hard and not let her feelings for Eric come in between.
"I was wondering if you would be free for a drink tonight?" she asked. Although Peter had taken the initiative to speak to her in the past, he had never invited her out. She had also thought that if he did, she would find an excuse to reject him.
After receiving a task from her boss, she could not wait around, so she decided to make the first move. Peter's spoon paused its action, and he looked at Olivia. This was not the first time a girl was asking him out to drink.
When he was still in the university, a few girls wanted to get close to him because of his outstanding results. Moreover, his family background was not so bad. He was surprised because he noticed that although Olivia smiled politely and chatted casually with him. He could tell that she wanted to avoid him.
So seeing that she suddenly asked them to go out, he could not help his surprised. "I feel that we have been working together, and since it's the weekend, we can hang out and become more friendly. It would help the working relationship," Olivia said.
Peter's lips curved into a smile; he was not a top scorer for nothing. Over thirty people were working on the project, but Olivia only asked him for a drink to improve his work relationship.
If that were the case, she should have invited everyone on both sides to relax together. Although Steam and ABM are competitors but at the moment, they are cooperating on one project, and a good work environment would improve the result. "Do you want me to invite a few colleagues?" Peter had a friendly smile.
Olivia paused; she could not say yes, because she wanted to be alone with him. How would she pry his mouth open if others were around? But how could she say no when she just gave an excuse about her work relationship?
She looked at Peter, she thought he was deliberately trying to expose her excuse, but Peter just looked at her with clear eyes. It seems that he was only following her statement. He had taken her excuse to build a working relationship.
"I am not close to anyone from Steam, and I am not very sure how to get along with them," Olivia bit her lips and acted as though she was in a serious dilemma. She sounded like she wanted to get along with them but did not know what they thought.
"My colleagues are easy to get along with, but if you feel uncomfortable... Would there be others from ABM?" after a deliberate pause, Peter asked. He seemed to ask casually; Olivia could not guess what he was thinking.
"it would be awkward if you were the only one from Steam; I just... Olivia paused as she tried to consider the situation seriously.
" How about the two of us this time? Maybe next time, we could have colleagues from each company join, " Olivia suggested. She did not dare mention her task at this point. One, she might end up alerting the enemies. Two, someone from ABM might snatch this chance from her.
" Alright, " Peter accepted. He had thought to ask her out one of these days anyway.
After lunch, Amy went to find Peter, "I think it's not so good to get close to someone from ABM," Amy said. Emily did not have the time to come over that afternoon because she had a lot of appointments, so Amy was taking care of things and sending the feedback to Emily.
"Why? I don't see any rule that says employees could not make friends of their choice?" Peter challenged.
Amy felt bitter when she heard this; after working with Peter for a few days, she liked him and started having other thoughts. Peter was talented and valued by the boss. Amy knew that such a person would only grow in the company. Moreover, he was gentle and friendly with a handsome face. How could she not be tempted?
So she had paid more attention to him and played little tricks to get his attention; who knows that he would keep going to a woman from ABM? Olivia was beautiful and intelligent. Amy felt threatened, so she wanted to use the differences in companies and their particular situation to discourage him. She did not expect him to be so stern.
"I am just saying even if ABM and Steam are cooperating at the moment, we are still competitors," Amy swallowed her bitterness and replied.
"So? Even if the companies fight openly and secretly, we are cooperating at the moment, and there is no need to act like strangers," Peter answers.
"Alright, I just wanted to remind you to be careful," After saying this, Amy walked away. She just wanted to use the company's name for her gain; after all, if Peter stopped interacting with Olivia, he might notice her but seeing his intense reaction, she decided to take a step back.
When Peter saw her leaving, he felt a bit guilty. Yesterday, he had given Olivia a hint that Steam had evidence. He hoped to prevent ABM from trying to support the Smith group and getting pulled down. If that happens, the leaders will be blamed. So he told Olivia after careful consideration.
He knew he was wrong for doing that, but he consoled himself that the bit of information would not affect Steam. If anything, as long as ABM stayed neutral, the case would be resolved faster.
So he had a guilty conscience, which was why he attacked Amy the moment she made mention of it. Peter is someone who is loyal; he knew that this quality was part of the reason he was valued in Steam, but he had been attracted to Olivia since he met her.
At first, he wanted to push those thoughts aside, but since Olivia took the initiative to invite him for a drink, he could not help but have hope. Even when his head told him that Olivia only asked him out because she wanted to know something from him.
He prided himself in his honest nature and felt that there was no harm as long as he did not let out any of the company secrets that could be used against the company.
