Hunter still couldn't sleep, he was too aware of Isabelle in his room. Her lime scents filled his whole nostril and he was unable to concentrate on anything. Many times he found himself standing in front of the door trying to enter her room and ravish her, but he was always able to stop himself. He sighed a breath of frustration and left the door once again as his desire to be a gentleman to Isabelle surpassed her carnal desire. What Hunter didn't know was that Isabelle wouldn't mind him waking her up and ravaging her.
'Good' Hunter picked up Jacob's scent "Come to my house" He mind linked him, at least Jacob would be able to keep him occupied.
"I'm here." Jacob let himself in and it didn't take him 3 seconds to get to Hunter. He used the wolf speed. There is always a comparison between a Vampire and a Wolf who is faster. A vampire is faster and nimble on their feet. They get faster and stronger the older they get. They have more life expectancy than wolves and other supernatural but that doesn't mean that Wolves and Witches are not equally dangerous. Wolves are stronger and their peak always comes during the full moon. Wolves get stronger with rage also, so there is no telling how strong they can get. What witches and wizards lack physically they make up spiritually. Hunter even believes they are the worst kind to fight.
"Something happened," Hunter said as he gulped down the remaining whiskey. The special whiskey was refined to get supernatural drunk, a human would be knocked out cold with a single drop. Hunter has been drinking it to get his mind off Isabelle but it's not working. He finally realized even his alcohol endurance is higher than the rest.
"Let me guess," Jacob sniffed "she is here, and she already knows." he said with a sly smile
Jacob is a wolf so he could easily find out by picking up the feminine smell in the air. Hunter rolled his eyes as this wasn't the main reason he called Jacob.
"She was attacked." Hunter's words made the smile fade from Jacob's face.
"Hope she is fine?" he asked though he didn't smell any blood in the air he still had to ask. Hunter nodded and he breathed a sigh of relief.
"I couldn't smell her attackers or hear their thoughts." Hunter didn't ponder much about it when he rescued Isabelle or when he was alone with her. Isabelle has the uncanny ability to make all his worries disappear but now he was alone with Jacob he couldn't stop himself from thinking about it.
Jacob also looked a bit shocked, he knew that it was something serious. "I think it's the new spray use to cover up their smell" he said with a shrug but didn't take the matter lightly.
"Something like that now exists?" I asked surprisingly. After he returned he took his time to get familiar with this world but he was still got surprised by such information, it made him realize he still has a lot to learn. What he didn't know was that not everyone knows about it also.
"Yes, and it is a secret. Only the Royals, the alphas, and leaders know about it." Hunter frowned for being unaware of such a development
"Why am I not aware. Seriously nobody thought it wise to tell me?" If he had known that such a substance was already in use, he would have heightened his sensitivity to the max. If he was a second late, his mate would have been dead and everything would have been for naught. Nobody truly knows how powerful Hunter is, even though he feels like he can get stronger if need be.
"you just got back and if you did read the minds of the Alphas you would've known." Jacob's words brought his reasoning back and it pacified him to some extent.
"That's true, but I still won't read people's minds, let me just allow myself to discover things my way. Besides, I don't like prying into people's secrets, except it's necessary." Hunter had always felt the need to be responsible for his abilities. He doesn't listen to people's minds except for emergencies or when you allow him. He didn't know but that was one of the reasons Jacob respects him and always feels safe in his presence. Jacob knows how tempting it would be, he feels nobody would be strong enough to resist such temptation except Hunter. Jacob gave Hunter a thumbs up in his mind as his respect for the hybrid keep soaring. 'Imagine having the power to conquer the world easily and still choose to live a quiet life.' these were thoughts of Jacob.
Hunter folded his arms and thought for a while, he is not thinking about the Azalk group. He believed they have heard the last of them, but even in the absence of Azalk, there are still some dangerous people. He knew as long as the world exist, the war between good and evil will never end.
"So, why can't I hear their thought?" Jacob has solved half of the dilemma but the remaining half was the one that bothered Hunter the most.
"I have no idea." Jacob said and also went into deep thought. Jacob first thought was the royals, he felt like they are the only ones Hunter wouldn't be able to read their mind. Jacob was convinced that the royals may have a hand in the attack and he never had a good opinion about them anyway. He sighed but didn't bother to tell Hunter what he was thinking, he knew Jacob wouldn't listen to his thoughts no matter how tempting. Jacob had no idea he was far from the truth since Hunter had actually read the thought of the royals once. Though it was hard it wasn't impossible so Hunter wasn't suspecting anybody in particular.
Hunter sighed after a long silence and decided the solution wouldn't come to them no matter how much they think.
"You can go and sleep, tomorrow is school." Hunter could sense that Jacob was tired and needed to sleep. Jacob just nodded and left, for a second Hunter thought he would want to hear how he told Isabelle about being her mate. Hunter watched as Jacob left his house and breathed a sigh of relief but it was short-lived because Jacob sent him a link message.
"You will still fill me in on her reaction the moment she found out the truth." Hunter scoffed as he reminded himself once again how Jacob shares the same similarities with his ancestor who was Hunter's friend and beta. He looked up towards Isabelle's room and he could feel that the future holds a lot of challenges.
"Nothing is going to stop me from keeping you safe." He muttered and Isabelle's lips twitched in her sleep as if she heard what Hunter said.
