Chapter 23 - Happy birthday my baby

Koshari was chained in a metal cage which was covered with a sheet, so the royal prisoner wouldn't be seen by the people. It was the rules of the land for any royal family arrested to be taken away by covering their face from the people.

Koshari hands and legs were chained. Just as the pharaoh ordered, they were taking him back to the forbidden hills where he will be locked up again, this time with a seal strong enough to hold him and wouldn't be broken again. The soldiers were led by the chief of the soldiers alongside the priestess who will hold the ritual of sealing him and cast a spell that will slowly kill him in the hills.

The fourth prince was escorted by a hundred troops soldiers as they headed towards the hill.

Seeing the covered big cage being carried by the soldiers, the people wondered who among the royal family was arrested They hardly see something like it and some have only seen it once when one of the prince was arrested for causing a fight in a brothel after a drunk night but they didn't take him anywhere outside the gate.

Prince Koshari stared darkly at the door of the cage, moving his tongue across the tip of his teeth in a slow manner. His dark stares and straight face signified that the cunning prince have a plan in mind. A wicked plan that would be executed by him soon. The state of the prince at that moment was enough to take any one off the ground to the floor because of the strong and malign aura coming from him.

His powerful jaw tightened and his eyes darkened as it remained fixated at the door. He took hold of the chains and pulled it with a lot of strength, showing his chiseled muscles and his veins throbbing in his neck. He pulled harder and a loud sound of chains breaking off resounded in the large cage.

Hearing the loud sound, the soldiers stopped and faced the cage fully alert. They were expecting the fourth prince to easily break off the chains and try to fight them, but still chained him in the cage even though they knew what will happen.

Of course the soldiers were scared, but the priestess told them what to do already. The first time when he was eight, he had easily broken off the chains and attacked them but the priestess held him back with dark magic and they were able to take him to the hills where he was locked up for fifteen years. The strength he had displayed when he was still little was alarming, that he had beaten half the soldiers that went with him that day singlehandedly, until the priestess stepped in.

Now what happened before is about to happen again, but this time they were fully prepared. Or so they think.

The soldiers were all nervous but tried their best not to show it. Who wouldn't be nervous when as a kid, he almost killed a lot of soldiers? The adult man now might actually finish them off unless the priestess do something about it.

Thick smoke filled the cage and in no time, the surrounding was filled with smoke blocking the visions of the soldiers.

"Cover your noses. Try your best not to inhale the smoke." the priestess cried out loud, covering her nose with the back of her hand. The soldiers followed suit but some where coughing really hard as the smoke went into their nostrils already. She shouted again, "Be at alert, don't let the prince get you."

Some of the soldiers were finding it difficult to breath through the smoke as no matter how they tried to protect themselves, the smoke was too much that they found it difficult to stand firm. Some of the soldiers fell to the ground, placing their hand on their chest while coughing loudly.

The priestess eyes were filled with panic as she heard the loud cough of the soldiers. She couldn't see through the smoke and so tried to move back but the horse she rode was also in panic.

"Calm down everyone." she managed to say even though she was also in panic like the rest of her soldiers. She never expected something like that to happen and so had no plan on escaping it. How could she forget how unpredictable Koshari is? She only knew him when he was younger and she have seen how he always does things that makes everyone wonder how they never saw it coming.

Her horse suddenly ran off, taking her unaware, which resulted in her falling to the ground without her spell book and the sealing seal. The priestess shook in fright knowing it was all over for her. Her sealing seal neither is the spell book with her anymore.

The wails of soldiers filled her ears and her eyes widened knowing why. The sound of a sharp metal cutting through their bones was so loud and clear that her body went numb. Koshari is attacking the soldiers and killing them. After a short moment of cries and wails which seems like forever, everywhere went silent.

The priestess squirted her eyes to see through the smoke but it was abortive still, she couldn't see anything. She felt a presence behind her and looked back sharply but there was no one there. Tears flow down her eyes as she moved away but don't know where to run to. Different shrilling voices were so loud in her head that she thought she will blow up in no time. It was agonizing and torturous, that made her want to scream but words weren't coming out from her mouth. There was no help anywhere.

Kill me, kill me!! she screamed inwardly.

She felt a being squat beside her and was forced to look up. There he was, the man she feared at that moment.

Koshari raised her chin and look straight into her eyes. The corners of his lips lifted and his usual amazed face was back again. He waved his hand and the smoke dispersed in a minute. The priestess was back to herself again and the pain she felt was gone. He left her chin and stood up walking back to the cage in slow strode, stepping on the dead soldiers on the floor.

The priestess looked around and her heart dropped. All the soldiers were dead. He spared no one alive, not even the chief of the soldiers. They were all dead. She covered her mouth as her eyes wondered around, seeing the bodies. Some had their head snapped out of their neck, some had their legs cut off, some their hands and some their hearts removed.

Her hand shook vehemently as she saw them, in horror. She looked at the prince who was searching the purse belonging to the chief with a disappointed look on his face. He looked at her and their eyes met.

"Do the Pharaoh not pay this soldier well? Why is there little money in his purse?" he asked and fling the purse away. He picked up the next purse but the voice of the priestess made him stop.

"How could you kill them all? They are innocent. They just carried out your father's order and didn't mean any harm. They all have families. The chief of soldiers is the only child of his old widowed mother. The troop leader just had a baby with his wife after praying for years, but you killed them all." she cried bitterly, but the fourth prince remained unmoved. He shook his head and went back to searching the purses of the dead soldiers, nonchalantly. "Nothing important here." he murmured and fling the purse he searched.

The priestess closed her eyes and cried bitterly. It was all her fault. She made the soldiers not to take precautions because she promised to help them and control the prince. It was all her fault. They all died because of her and she will bear the consequences.

She brought out a small blade from her long sleeve and raised it up above her head. Tears rushed down her cheek as she reminisced the most important moments she had on earth. From being crowned the royal priestess seventeen years ago to having her daughter thirteen years ago and all the moments she have spent with her baby. Her daughter's birthday is in two days and she won't be able to celebrate it with her. She won't be able to leave a message for her.

She looked down and closed her eyes. "Happy birthday my baby, I am so sorry I won't be with you on your special day like I promised cause I have to pay for my sin. Live a good life and stay away from trouble." she sniffed. Her daughter is in the good hands of her mother so she is rest assured of her safety.

She exhaled and took the blade deep into her stomach. Slowly she fell to the floor and her eyes went to Koshari who was still searching and wasn't bothered about her.

"Koshari..." she called in a low and weak voice before she closed her eyes and breathed her last.
