Chapter 24 - Hilda

„You are quite lucky. If you were brought to us only a few minutes later, you would've been dead or in a vegetative state. You lost a huge amount of blood and your Mana-Core was almost empty." Dr.Sean explained.

I stayed silent and listened to what he had to say.

„The gods' spear closed the wound on your right arm, if you hadn't done that, the nerves would've died and you wouldn't be able to get a prosthetic arm. But your nerves are still working so his Holiness will be able to make you a prosthetic arm. Normally, a soldier won't get this special treatment after partially failing his mission, but THEY seem to pity you."

Being favored or even pitied by the Gods was an honor to every Nordic survivor. I on the other hand, felt bitter, like I had lost faith and hope.

„Later our hospital's President will visit you. You should know by now that hospitals always have one nurse or doctor that is a Bearer and has the ability to accelerate one's healing process." The doc continued.

I nodded and remembered the several medics that healed the cadets after their rough training.

The white haired Dr.Sean grabbed his notebook and left my room after telling me everything I he knew.

Hours had passed since Dr.Sean's visit. The once blue sky was now orange and red, the sun was setting and I realized I had spent the entire day thinking of my fight with Piranha School. I mostly thought about Niam. He was never mentioned in the reports about Piranha School. Even when one of our agents managed to infiltrate their shelter, it always seemed like the Bearer Mul-Soo - with the water-based Salan ability - was their leader.

„Could it be that Niam is from one of the Lands and managed to make an agreement with Piranha School? The grey haired girl that wasn't fighting was also never mentioned in the reports from our spy. She and Niam both had roots in the Asian Empire. Maybe they were sent by them." I spoke to myself.

Another hour passed and the President of the hospital arrived.

The President was in his late fifties. He had grey hair and no beard. He wore a pair of black glasses. He also wore a blue suit and couldn't walk properly.

„Geir Angerboda, I'll will help you heal yourself now. Lay down."

He started the process immediately. Bright green lights came from his hands and went into my upper body. I relaxed and dozed off only to be woken up by the President a minute later.

„Stay here for the night. Tomorrow morning, your prosthetic arm will arrive." The President said.

‚Tomorrow?' I was stupefied.

„If this is the hospital near the Central Superio bridge, Oslo HQ must be a week away by horse. How can it arrive so fast? How long did I even sleep?" I asked.

„From the moment you were brought here until now, exactly 8 days passed." He responded.

That didn't explain how the information about me arrived so fast to Oslo and back.

„How did the information travel fast enough between the hospital and Oslo?"

„Oh! You were sent to Central Superio before the discovery, right?"

I shrugged my shoulders.

„When you were sent to Central Superio, a Bearer from the African Kingdom named Nesta appeared. Her Salan ability allows her to turn normal pieces of paper into scrolls that allow long-way communication. The scrolls work independently from the original creator, so she has no idea where the scrolls are and what kind of information they send."

I didn't say anything after that, I only closed my eyes.

„Seems you're tired. Get some rest, we'll wake you up tomorrow." The President said as he walked out.

„Wake up, Geir!" Sergeant Will yelled.

I straightened myself and saw the white room filled with a cozy orange light that came from the sunrise. Sergeant Will was on the left side of my bed, while the President was on its right side.

„We'll put the prosthetic arm on now." The President said and placed a wooden box on the bed.

When he opened the wooden box ,and took out a wooden prosthetic arm that was made with the same material as my spear, I knew it was from his Holiness.

The prosthetic had a light-brown color with the vein-like template. It felt just like normal wood but I could tell from experience that it was several times more durable.

„Stretch out your right arm and don't flinch, this will hurt." The President said.

Sergeant Will came closer and pushed my left hand and feet down into the bed.

The President moved the prosthetic closer to the stump of my arm and the needles that were at the end of the prosthetic pierced into my skin.

„DIAAAAH!"

A loud scream of pain escaped my throat and I clenched my whole body. I stiffened up and started to lose consciousness but a slap from Sergeant Will kept me awake. When the needles pierced my skin, a burning sensation ran up my arm and circled around my whole body, it felt like my nerves were being ripped out of it. Then, the Mana that was in the prosthetic entered my body. The foreign Mana mixed with mine and created a link with my brain and the prosthetic.

„It's finished! Now rest." The President said.

When I heard his words, I passed out immediately.

***

„Wake up, soldier!"

*Pat*

I was woken up by a hard slap to my face that nearly broke my jaw. A woman in her late twenties stood on the left side of the bed. She had wheat-blond hair that was braided back into a ponytail. Her dark-orange eyes stared at me through her thick blonde eyebrows. She had freckles on her cheeks and a thin nose. She looked absolutely stunning. She was 185 centimetres tall and she didn't lack in any other department. She wore a brown fur-cape with a vest that had animal bones as buttons and a pair of brown trousers that matched the cape well.

‚I'm pretty sure my face is red and that it's not only caused by her slap.' I thought.

„Who are you?" I asked and massaged my face.

„It's Hilda. And you're the soldier I chose to join my Valks." She answered.

It was her Holiness, the spear goddess, live in front of me. I panicked and didn't know what to say.

„Eeeeh…"

„Get up! We're going to Oslo." She ordered.

„Yes, your Holiness."

„Don't call me that! Just call me Leader, understood?"

„Yes, your Ho… Leader."

„Good." She answered and looked at my right arm.

I'd forgotten that I passed out from the hellish pain the prosthetic caused.

I lifted my right arm and tried moving my fingers. One by one, the fingers started twitching and I could open and close my „hand" after a few seconds.

„The fatality rate of this procedure is 97%. Were you lucky or strong enough to endure?" She asked and took a few steps in my direction. She moved her face closer to mine and looked me straight into the eyes. Her dark-orange eyes started to glow, and suddenly, I could see flames in her irises.

„A Fire-Bearer." I mumbled.

„Yes, but I'm different from the ones you've seen until now." She said.

Before I could ask what she meant, she put a finger onto her lips signaling me to be quiet.

„I'll tell you in Oslo."
