The next morning Alton awoke in bed silently and a heavy feeling seemed to push down on his chest. The alcohol last night had stirred up his tightly guarded emotions. Thinking back to his overreaction in the flying shuttle he sighed.
Being a solider often gave people some form of PTSD, a modern medical condition on Earth. A condition that effected the patients daily life. When he served in the army on Earth he didn't have any lasting effects, and was able to eventually overcome his jitters after some periods of rest.
Here though his need to be constantly fighting made the effects much more prominent. He couldn't quiet call it PTSD but the fact that his first reaction when someone try's to touch him while he's resting was to fight back.. Well that certainly didn't sound normal.
The sky outside was a light blue and the sun was beginning to light the sky. A bit despondent he had trouble focusing his thoughts.
In a mindless way he showered, dressed and had a simple breakfast. The military would be meeting soon and he wanted a chance to look at some of their techniques. As his mind settled he automatically switched gears, settling into the role of Star Commander.
When he arrived at the military base where he would be spending most of his time at he was a bit surprised. The layout was vastly different from the Gurr empires as well as the Federation's and the Alliance's. Suddenly a bit excited he couldn't repress the feelings he got whenever he went to a new country while in the field.
One thing he liked about this new life of his was that he could travel to many different places and experience many new things. Although he wasn't often as excited as he was now. As he passed the gates and walked to the meet up spot he ran into Ralph, who's gaze was sparkling.
"Alton! Have you seen this lay out? My lord! I'm so excited! And the soldiers? Have you seen them yet? I came earlier and saw them lining up, i can't wait to have a good fight!" Ralph got along well with Alton because they both held a certain passion for a good fight, although Ralph was way less self destructive.
As they walked Ralph spoke about what he had seen earlier and informed Alton that Leon had also appeared. Alton though back to the previous night and couldn't help but wonder, was he actually drunk? To drift off right next to a unknown person? Him? The person who always had insomnia?
When they arrived at the meeting grounds Alton found it was a large field made specifically for training and was quite impressed. Leon soon approached them and they all gave a short greeting and then Leon spoke about the day's events.
After some shifting of the troops they would creat teams and have mock battles. No one would keep score and it was ment to be a warm up before they got down to other activities. The day passed quickly and both troops have decent impressions of each other.
It was now midday and solider from both troops a were milling about with each other talking about the warm up battles and the other activities, like shooting games and piloting. Meanwhile Leon and Alton were having a quiet discussion about each other troops.
"I'm glad we are doing this Leon, my troops seem to quite enjoy this break."
Alton didn't smile but his face was gentle looking, it was clear he was in a good mood.
Leon gazed out at the soldiers and spoke a bit abruptly, "Would you also like to fight?"
Alton paused, and then said, "I won't deny it, what Serge said yesterday was right, i'm a bit of a battle maniac."
Alton and Leon's gazes met, both men were just about the same hight, their muscle mass and posture was similar as well. Before they had been standing side by side but now they faced each other face to face.
Leon spoke before Alton could continue, "Would you like to fight? With me?"
Alton's eyes narrowed and his eyes saw the fighting sport that the other was showing,
'He seems to really want to fight me.' His thoughts disappeared though when Leon began to pressure him, he didn't think it was a mistake. This man was provoking him.
Alton's eyes became sharp, something he didn't notice but Leon did. And now a smile had made its way onto his face. He wanted to fight, he wanted to see what this Star Commander could do.
Someone had noticed their confrontation and soon the soldiers had quieted down and were looking their way. Alton didn't release any pressure but his fighting sport had also been awakened. Casting a glance at the soldiers he gave a light hum.
"Hmm, i would like to fight. But this will be a mock battle i won't take things too far."
Seeing Alton's self restraint Leon felt dissatisfied but didn't speak more. Perhaps he could convince this man to a fight in private later. He had plenty of time anyway.
They two made their way to an empty area and quickly set up psychic power boarders and walked onto the ring. Seeing their motions the soldiers picked up that they were going to fight and soon they were all a buzz wort conversation.
"Who do you think will win? Can anybody beat Commander anyway?"
"Go general! We believe in you!"
"I bet that they will tie, after all they both seem so strong."
As the shields rose the outside noise dimmed a bit, Alton casually listened his collar and popped a button lose, he was excited to fight. This wasn't a battle and more for fun, he hadn't sparred like this since he came here. All his fights were on a battle field or in a life and death situation.
They eyes made contact and before the cheering soldiers could react they were right in front of each other trading blows.
