Chapter 3 - Living Life

Back to the present, Yuyeon is waiting for her tea to be warm as she looked at her left hand with a tattoo-like compass in it and still caressing Zian's hand with compassion in her eyes... and then walks to the table where the tea is being placed before pouring it into her cup and sitting back again next to Zian. Miraculously, the compass tattoo is gone from her left hand. At the same time, Shen Rui Qi, the doctor that usually tends to Zian came in and greeted her.

Good day, Yuyeon... She spoke. Yuyeon then replied, ah... Rui Qi... is it the time already? to check up on Zian? Please, have your way... and do your best.

Yep! let me check his vitals first and let's get something to eat together today... said Rui Qi casually since they are close after 2 and a half years of being friends with her. Today's lunch is stir-fried pork cutlet and...

Ugh! Suddenly a weak sigh that wasn't a female voice was heard in the private room.

both the ladies perk up their ears and look straight at Zian's body... Rui Qi fastly approaches Zian and checks his vital signs while also seeing weak movement from the body, while Yuyeon was standing frozen in the side while a grasp of shock and anticipation was written clearly on her face.

Zian slowly opened his eyes, trying to adjust to the light that came into his eyes. blurry images started to focus on a woman in a white coat with a stethoscope on his head while trying to hear his heartbeat.

Do you remember what's your name? Ruiqi asked Zian trying to get more response from his brain,

I'm Zi…an, where am I? answered Zian, weak and confusedly.. next to the bed, a low sobbing sound was heard from Yuyeon, but Ruiqi ignored her and focused totally on Zian.

You are in the hospital; do you need something or feel something? asked Ruiqi…

Wa…ter… Zian said weakly…

Motherly instinct struck Yuyeon fast as she took another glass and filled it with water for Zian and then brought it to him with a straw so that he can slowly sip it, while Ruiqi adjusted the bed angle upwards slowly to help Zian into a better position to drink.

Zian tried to turn his head towards Yuyeon after he can see clearly and saw Yuyeon for the first time again three years after the incident...

Seeing tears in Yuyeon's eyes, Zian uttered weakly...

"Mom… don't cry..." Unable to suppress her feelings, Yuyeon burst into crying while hugging Zian.

It took five minutes for Yuyeon to calm down and wipe away her tears… while Ruiqi is waiting for her to calm down before calling other specialists and nurses via hospital intercom.

After an hour of thorough medical checkup, and after every doctor on the spot except the neurologist gave clearance about Zian's condition, Yuyeon called her father-in-law about Zian's recovery.

Wang Zhang lei's phone rang a couple of times before he picked it up because he was in a heated debate with his mahjong friends about political issues in Hongkong.

"Oh, Yuyeon-er. Is there something you need for Zian today?" Wang Zhang lei asked just as a formality because his heart is still not content because of losing a debate with his fellow friends because of some rumored scandal about corruption in his favorite political party while news about the airport suicide bombing by the extremist is being played on the tv which none was listening.

Father, it's Zian... He woke up! Okay, I'll come... wait for what... repeat... I can't hear you.

Thinking it was maybe because of the bad signal, patiently Yuyeon uttered every word slowly. "Father, Zian's awake now..."

Jolted from his seat like a person getting injected with chicken blood, Wang Zhang lei shouted to Yuyeon unconsciously… "Wait for me there, I am coming now!!"

His old friends were shocked because of his action and asked...

"Old Wang, what's happened?? you scared me… I almost peed myself here... I know we are old men but don't act like we are still..."

"It's Zian... my grandson... Zian's awake…" cut Wang Zhang lei short.

"That's good news... let's go now... leave everything here, someone will tend it..." says someone.

All of his friends smiled widely and offered to take him to the hospital together...

While Wang Zhang lei is on the way to New Hope Hospital, Rui qi and Shen lei the neurologist are busily checking every chart that has been recorded for Zian's Brain waves and Scans after comparing it over and over again with the data from the past 3 years, they are now positive that there's no major or minor injury left in the brain and it works normally as regular people...

Wang Zhang lei and his friends arrived at the Hospital hastily and started running, every doctor, nurse, and employee seeing Wang Zhang lei running towards the VIP elevator nodded or bowed down a bit as a sign of respect to the Hospital owner.

A little kid then asked his mom, who was waiting for her turn to get examined, Mummy, why can't I be running in the hall?

Mummy, why are grandpas allowed to run? his mom just looked back at him and explained slowly... the grandpas are running because something important is happening... you will also do the same when you grow up...

When something so important for you is happening, just run as fast as you can... that way you will feel less guilty if it is a bad thing, or feel happier if it is a good thing. you understand, do you, love?

yes, mum... the kid answered sulkily…

Wang Zhang lei rushed to the room where Zian was resting together with the other grandpas and barged in... and this made Zian flinch because of the loud sound of the door hitting the edge since it is a sliding door.

After seeing Zian being cuddled in Yuyeon's arms while talking to her… Wang Zhang lei bawled loudly and fell to his knees and thanked every Gods, Buddhas, yaksha, or any Deities that he ever knew all his life while kowtowing nonstop…

Behind him, another 4 grandpas are trying to hold back their tears miserably seeing the miracle that happened before their eyes because they know how miserable Wang Zhang lei was in the past 3 years...

5 minutes later, Yuyeon prepared some tea for the elders... she has to boil the water again since the tea before is already cold and it is not appropriate to give cold tea to the elders.

Wang Zhang lei is also being told by his peers to change Zian's name since it is considered to bring bad luck as the elders still easily believe superstitions and mythical childhood stories about bad luck and misery that follows... Wang Zhang lei thinks hard and later agrees to his peers' pressure and coaxing since he's also a bird of a feather that flocks together but decides to ask Yuyeon later to respect her opinion too.

After two hours the elders then get back, including Wang Zhang lei since he also knows that Zian needs more rest since he's still weak... After cleaning all the glasses and preparing another pot of hot water for Zian, hunger came and the sound of growling could be heard from Yuyeon.. she just realized that she already missed lunchtime and it was already 4.20 in the afternoon...

She then ordered some dinner from the cafeteria in the hospital for herself since Ruiqi probably already had her lunch while checking Zian's diagram and charts at noon after Zian's medical check was held.

One week passed and Zian's recovery is going well, a couple of days later he can go home and just have regular checkups every week just for monitoring as Ruiqi insists Yuyeon do so... Wang Zhang lei already talked to Yuyeon about changing Zian's name and she then later talked to Zian about it.

Zian in the beginning is reluctant to change his name, but later changes his mind and tells his mother that he wanted to change his name when he came back home, so Wang Zhang lei is preparing a small family party together with his close friends, Old Qin, Old Ren, Old Jing, and Old Shu.

Because of the joint teamwork from various doctors in the hospital, using western and eastern medical specialists, Zian's recovery is faster than expected so after 14 days since he woke up, he already walks normally but not for long since his stamina is still low and most of his joints and muscles aren't trained for long...

Zian then took his time watching tv for various programs and just doing some light exercise in bed with the help of the nurses to help the blood flow in his body circulate better for faster recovery.

While watching tv programs, he also pondered about his new name as his grandpa already asked him to prepare it so he can announce it at his homecoming party himself.

Boringly he shuffled the channel and saw a girl singing at a concert-like event at first glance but something different was happening at the same time. It was a rerun program that was being aired just to fill the time quota of a newly broadcasted TV station and it was Zian's first time seeing the singer.

She was singing in Korean since the channel was a Korean-TV Broadcast Station. Zian understands Korean since his mother is from Seoul and her late father also talks to his family in Korean on regular days at home just to teach Zian to learn more languages since he can speak... so, Zian who was born in a Mixed-Nationality family already has basic proficiency in several languages such as Mandarin, Korean, Japanese and English at 8 years old.

Even though it's just a couple of weeks since he regains his consciousness, it didn't hinder him to understand the meaning of the song that is being sung by the singer, the lyrics are full of sadness and longing for someone's dearest in their heart to find them back again. The singer is wearing a mask on her face so the audience can only guess who the singer that sings on the stage...

"If I send my feeling in my whole heart

with my tears and my pain can you hear?

I pray so hard so that this

short song and these useless lyrics

can resonate through your ears

I sing with my tears for you to come back

if you can hear my feeling". -

As his eyes are glued to the television, Xion's body shudders...
