"UNHAND ME, I'M THE HEAD MAID KNOW YOUR PLACE"
"Wow you sure are a noisy one. Don't you agree Love?" I said walking downstairs, whilst the knights pinned down the head maid. She seem intitled, she bland probably in her early 40s, white woman with short dark brown hair and green eyes. 'This just got interesting'. "What's your name 'head maid'?" I asked with a snarky undertone.
"My name is Maria, peasants don't have last names." She said switching her tone, she seemed nervous. Whether because it was the crushing pressure of Castor or me watching her every move. the twitching, twiddling of her fingers amongst each other. "Your highness, My lady what brings you here. You shouldn't treat me like this in front of the Lady. Do you feel like men treating me like this". She said looking me in my eyes for sympathy, searching with her green envious eyes. I looked and Castor to see if he knew what I was thinking.
"Let her go" Castor said warmly. "She is a woman after all. Please Maria, please accompany us to the tearoom".
"Yes, your highness." She shoved us the knights seeming proud of herself. She walked in front of us to the tearoom, with her head held high and her shoulders proud. "Shall I make the tea". She walked in and made her way to the table standing by the sofa for us to sit down.
"That won't me necessary, Maria" I said, Castor gave me his hand so I could sit down with ease. 'Fucking corsets, I can't move with this on'. Castor sat next to me.
"Why don't you take a seat Maria." Castor said
"Yes"
"Maria, how long have you been working in this house?" I asked
"About 25 years now Lady Keres. Its like the years flew by".
"How did you become head maid. It's the highest position among the help. It must have been difficult." Castor crossed his legs.
"I was the Lady's nanny. I've looked after her since she was a baby"
"Really, I would have though that the Lady would have been at her parents, with her father her 'mother'." I responded
"Well, her mother died during child birth"
"Well, that doesn't explain why she wasn't in her father's estate. Its so weird that her 'father' would send her to her grandfathers." I said, pocking for a reaction.
"Well, her father couldn't cope. Her grandfather stepped in. He cares for her- cared" she said twiddling her thumbs.
"Castor, my love how old is the Grand dukes son?"
"Well he's currently 34. Hmmmm that's strange Lady Lena is what 23. That's absurd it would mean the young Duke was 11 years old when Lady Lena was born."
"Very strange. Don't you think so Maria".
"Yes, its. Its very strange. But I don't know the background, I'm just a maid". Her fingers started to tremble.
"Really, before you seemed so proud to be the 'head' maid. So, so proud." I said mocking her. She seemed bothered. "As the 'head' maid I'm sure you're in charge on who serves, my apologises served the Grand Duke, his meals and drinks. And I'm sure you check every meal and drink being served to the Grand Duke."
"I- I don't understand what your applying the, the duke was stabbed to death, not poisoned." She said jigging her leg.
"Who said anything about poison Maria" Castor said leaning forward in his leg.
"I, I" She started to stammer and sweat.
"How about we end this conversation here, Maria. You must be mortified to hear what happened to the Grand Duke. I would like that drink please, something cold. Also, could you bring some food. I'm starving, could you bring 5 steaks, 3 portions of baked potatoes, and lots of gravy. I would love to have this served in the dinning room if you don't mind. Oh and please bring in 4 desserts, preferable something with chocolate sponge." Maria stood up and bowed her head to me. Her feet couldn't carry her fast enough out the room.
"Why did you let her leave?" Castor questioned.
"I'm sure she's the one who put the poison in her food, but I don't know what it was. It was clearly reacted slowly. She had the opportunity to commit the attempted murder, but we don't have a motive or means. Once we find out what the poison was we can discover if she intended to kill him. What is your opinion?"
"I believe they were lovers. The Grand duke and Maria. Its the only explanation."
"And what makes you think they were lovers"
"Well, I know how it feels to not be with someone you want to be with. The laws that divide you from that person. Broken promises." Castor unfolded his legs and leant in towards me.
"I feel like you're trying to indirect me."
"Well you said we could get married, knowing its against the law for Gods to be with dark supernatural beings. Are you willing to abandon Olympus to be with me?"
"I'm starting to realise that my whole life has been a lie. My memories are fabricated, I need to know who's responsible. Once I know the truth, I have a feeling I won't want to be apart of Olympus anymore."
"What about, your aunt, your mother sister. You seem to love her very much. Will you leave her too?"
"How did you know about my aunt I, I never told you that"
"I'm sorry, sometime when I drink from the vein, I can see what people love and care for. When I drank from you I saw memories of Pumpkin, and your aunt. The rest were like a cloud, it was gloomy."
"I never knew that. But if my mother is a demon there's a possibility that my aunt is one too. I guess it makes sense she was cursed to never have children. Demons aren't something you hear about. They were wiped out, I don't know how. But it's possible that my aunt and my mother are the last pure blooded demons."
"My father knows about the demons. If he didn't want to kill and drink your blood then maybe we could ask him. But, more importantly, what are we gonna do about this 'head' maid"
"We're gonna have a lovely lunch, Darling". There was a knock at the door.
"Your Highness, My Lady, your lunch is being served in the dinning room."
"Well, lets go have lunch then" Castor stood up and offered his hand.
