Chapter 2 - 2. The Clash With Goblin

Freya enjoys the feeling of wind flowing through her body while flying. As a witch of the Fortunian tribe, she can synchronize herself with eagles that she raised or close to her. There is no sign of rain or fog; today is a sunny day with not many clouds, riped for Freya's eagles to soar through the sky and look for what her chieftain said, "A place to settle". The Eagles fly in different directions to increase the area of searching. " A Place with water sources nearby" Freya murmurs, she understands the importance of water to the survival of the tribe, she has seen, people, who can withstand the hunger ness more weeks but couldn't stand lacking water for several days.

Aside from water sources, she knows she needs to find a place with nearby forests and pastures as well. Horses and sheep need grass and her people need gathering and hunting to live. Her chieftain has promised to teach them how to cultivate crops but she doubts it. The Southerners know growing farms and fields but they never share with Northerners like her, whom they call "barbarian". That's why they have to move from place to place after the local huntable animals have run out. Even if the chieftain knows, it's only two months from now until winter so how much food can they gain from farming before the cold comes and destroys what they've built?

With many doubts inside her, Freya stills try her best to fulfill the mission given to her. There is something inside her that urges her to follow that man, to gain his favor and make him satisfied. Suddenly, she receives a signal from one of her eagles. She quickly synchronizes with him and what she's been looking for appears.

A vast pasture that seems to be borderless, a large lake in sight shining by reflecting the sunlight. To a side of a lake is a hill; if they build a settlement there, Freya knows it will be a strategic defensive point that gives them advantages over any possible attackers. However, she notices wooden Palisades not far away from the location that she reckons ideal for settling. Controlling her loyal follower, Freya flies above the Palisades and discover that it is a settlement.

" There's a settlement in the northern regions?" She thinks, she knows that every tribe pursues the way of a nomad until now. This settlement must be built for a long time judging the number of houses; although they are not well built like the houses that she had seen in the south, they are still houses capable of providing shelter. These houses can provide homes for at least 100 people. A creature gets out of the house and catches Freya's attention. Green skin, around 1m2 meter tall and slim figure; goblins, one of human's dangerous enemies have appeared.

" I must tell chieftain Perseus about this" Freya rushes out of the tent.

.........…

"So that is the case" Perseus speaks while sitting on a flat rock listening to Freya reporting about the situation. After she finishes, he asks:

" You said that location is ideal for settling, right? "

" Yes, my chief. There are forests, a large lake, and grasses for horses and sheep. The problem is the goblins, sir"

Clovis goes ahead: " If Lady Freya's words are true, we are facing with a goblin tribe with a population of around 100 goblins. They will have at least 40 hobgoblins, or even more. In the worst case, we can face a goblin mage."

[ Goblin is a race that has a desire for mining and fighting

Their life expectancy is around 20 years and their fertility is medium

They are fine blacksmiths and archers

Some goblins are bored to be much physically stronger than others, called hobgoblins ]

Perseus talks to Otto : " How many warriors do we have, Otto? "

" There are 67 in total, my chief. And every woman and man in our tribe will pick up their weapons if you order." Otto replies

" That is great to hear, but we do not need everyone to fight. I need every warrior to be on the strongest and fastest horses, others should be ready in the worst case as well. " Perseus

" I'll arrange that, chief " Clovis speaks

" Good, we will move as soon as everything is ready. " Perseus

Under the cover of the trees, the horde of Fortunian tribesmen is looking at the Goblin settlement. Built about 2 miles from the lake, these goblins surely will be a problem for these people if they want to settle. However, with high wooden Palisades surrounding the settlement and a high mountain at its' back, it proposes a challenge for everyone who dares to besiege. From afar, the Fortunians can notice a watchtower with two goblins guarding.

Perseus looks around him, 67 riders- the most elite fighters of the tribe. There are women inside the ranks as well; In the tribe, women often perform better than men in archery. Everyone is equipped with bows and arrows; among the tribe, riding, and archery are taught at a very young age. Aside from the warriors, about 100 more tribesmen are hiding among the wood as well, anyone who can't fight is far away guarding the sheep. Although only some of the tribesmen have horses and most of them use stone axes or spears, they are formidable forces capable of dealing damage in case the warriors fail.

Perseus opens the System Store and uses 100 CP to buy Master Archery and Master Horse Riding. Immediately, his body and mind have imprinted with the knowledge required to master these skills. With around 10 riders, Perseus rides toward the settlement. The goblins on the tower notice the advancing cavalries. shout out to alert the others. In less than 3 minutes, dozens of goblins have gotten onto the Pasalide, aiming at Perseus's people with bows and arrows.

Perseus raises his arms to halt his men, then, he raises his voice toward the goblins in the settlement:

" I AM PERSEUS FORTUNA, CHIEFTAIN OF THE FORTUNIANS AND SON OF THE GODS. I ORDER YOU TO OPEN THAT GATE AND BE SUMMITED TO MY CAUSE. ELSE, I'LL TEAR DOWN YOUR HOME AND SLAUGHTER TO THE LAST GOBLINS I FIND."

Perseus hears the laughter from the settlement, the goblins must find his words amusing due to the number of soldiers he is showing to them. The settlement gate is opened, about 20 hobgoblins- 1,6 meters tall with muscular bodies show up on their boar mounts. They are wearing armors with holding fearsome butcher knives. These hobgoblins are followed by other 30 goblins riding goats with leather armors equipped with bows or swords. The goblins are superior in the quality of weapons and armors compared to the horde of humans.

The leading goblin shouts:

" I'M KURK, CHIEFTAIN OF THE REDHORN CLAN! I WILL TEAR YOUR LOWLY HUMANS' HEADS OFF AND ENSLAVE YOUR PEOPLE. CHARGE!

The hobgoblins charge forward, the boars roar and advance under the command of their masters. The goblins follow with their war cries, causing some of the horses of the Fortunians to tremble. Having no choice left, Perseus and his men withdraw.
