Chapter 5 - Brighter days

Mirha Pov

My swords training began from the day after that and I diligently attended all ny sessions. With each session, the training became harder but I got stronger. So I was able to endure it but one blow from this guy and I'd be blown away.

How much strength does he have?

It was something I wondered everyday. Never really found an answer to it mo matter how many times he asked. Was it genetics? Was it really training?

Yes, he'd say it was training. But I wasn't satisfied with that. It had to be a mix of both.

Today, however, I couldn't go to the training. I had taken up on a job in the apothecary after studying medicine for the past two years. And the owner took me in as her first apprentice.

Somehow I had to inform Kaiser it'd be not possible for me to attend training.

And here I am running after him for almost an hour now! his build is way taller than me so when he runs, he covers twice as much distance compared to me. Still, how do you not get tired.

"Can you just fuck*ng wait?"

"Learnt to swear now, huh."

"Yes." I just knew he was smirking and rolling his eyes even though he was to my back.

"Then you can also focus on your training, especially on your stamina. You look like a chicken."

This guy! To think my brother annoying me all the time wasn't enough, he also had to join, huh?

"Yeah? Says the one that looks like the human version of a stick insect." I retorted. But he gave no response and just let out a small laugh. Nothing affects this boy!

"You know what! I've already informed you I can't come to training and told you not to wait for me in the training area today, now that's on you. Because I'm going to my the apothecary. BYE!"

and with that I turned around to walk back to the medical office.

it hadn't been much time when I heard Kaiser shout after me, "Mirha! double training tomorrow!"

Whatever, I was expecting that anyways. I'm sure he's going to make me do his errands as well. Turned me into his little errand girl!

*****

"I'm glad you were able to make it." Clarice said, organising the tablets and herbs on the shelf.

"Yeah, barely." I was still panting and my knees had gone weak so I sat on the sofa usually reserved for patients.

"You seem horribly tired, how much did he make you run after him." Clarice let out a heartily chuckle. She loved Kaiser as her own son. So I couldn't even complain about him to her.

My previous rest head and closed eyes came to attention when before me stood a girl holding a cup of glass for me.

However, since it was so sudden I was found dumbstruck just staring back and forth at the cup of water and the girl. "Yes?"

"Water." She said, her voice sounded so soft.

"For me?" I took the glass in hands and mouthed a thank you before drinking. I was so thirsty.

The girl took my glass after I had finished and went.

I made sure she had gone so I can walk up to Clarice. "Clarice." She jumped slightly as I creeper up behind her.

"Good heavens Mirha, you'll give me a heart attack."

"It's okay you won't die." I assured in a dismissive tone but she just stared at me, disappointed.

"What? Anyways, leave that." I shook my head and came closer to her ears.

She took me by my hands and distanced me from her, "What do you want to know?"

Albeit, I came closer to her again, "Who's she?"

"Sia."

"Who's sia and what's she doing here?"

"My apprentice."

"What!" Upon hearing that I took a step back and gaped at Clarice in utter shock.

At the same time, the new girl named sia had re entered the main reception of the apothecary. She seemed confused, probably because she thought something happened when I screeched.

But sia just took something from the reception and went inside again.

Shamelessly, I continued to bombard Clarice with questions on Sia.

My fingers pointed at her with accusations, "You said I was the first and only apprentice you had taken in."

"I did?" Clarice feigned ignorance, pretending to remember of such a moment.

I raised a brow, "You sure did."

"I don't remember. But the more the merrier, huh?" I wasn't mad that Clarice had taken ik someone other than me. Rather it was that now I had messed up when I'd gone around the whole neighbourhood bragging about being Clarice's first and only apprentice because I was so smart and whatnot, and that I'd remain the only one. Why did I ever say that? God strike me. No, not reality.

But seriously!

I wanted to cry and bang my head against a co concrete wall.

Nevertheless, if I look at the brighter side Sia seems to be around my age. Probably older or younger but i think I would get along with her. I'd have a friend and no longer have to stick with my brother and Kaiser all the time!

Such thoughts turned my frown into a wide smile and I danced with joy mentally.

I felt Clarice's eyes prying on me, she seemed to also be smiling. "So, you're no longer curious about her?"

I clapped my hands in joy and pranced around, "I am! I very much am! But its okay I won't be bothering you this time."

"Then Come. Get to work, Sia is already ahead of you because you were late."

I heaved in a breath and out, "Alright! What do I need to do." I asked, eagerness evident in my tone whilst my eyes danced everywhere.

Maybe, my days ahead will be brighter and livelier.
