Chapter 1 - A NIGHT TO REMEMBER A NIGHT TO REMEMBER

They say love conquers all but occasionally you need more than just love. You put in more effort, in terms of showing affection, providing comfort, and showing caring when the need arises in the quest to provide long-lasting happiness.

Think of the happy endings you read about in fairy tales, joy, spells, and love in the castle.

salvaged by a knight in shining armor, or been kissed by a prince while you are deep asleep awaiting the aroused passions. The butterflies in your belly, the snowman dressed as Santa Claus.

The Santa Claus riding through the roofs of every home dropping gifts and letters of affection to warms your heart? None of that comes to pass just the way you imagine it however you may come just close to that.

Devina Johnson Kurtis pauses pensively at the kitchen long lost in thought she groans "I need to move away from the neighborhood", she muttered, "I just had the fifth gunshot, oh lord my daughters cannot grow up in here" no matter what am serving Jeffrey Don Kurtis this divorce papers and to think it's just a few days to Christmas makes it worse.

He's out there drinking and not caring about my happiness he doesn't even care about this family, tears flow from her cheek and she wipes it immediately as she had someone creeps behind her.

Jenny! you almost startled me shouldn't you be watching tv with Keysha? , Jenny smiled at her she had her father's eyes she held on to her, I love you, mummy, why do you cry is it because of papa?.

No, it's not because of him I am worried about you girls all up in this goddamn neighborhood, I hate this place by the way where is Keysha?

I don't know mummy, she's not back yet

What ?! oh sweet Jesus with all this pandemonium how do I go looking for her? they are shooting everywhere god knows what is happening. With that Devina paced across the parlor shifted her window shutters to peep outside her eyes widened she saw a young lad across was in hot pursuit with a Glock in his hands he pause and took an aim and fired at someone dressed in Santa.

Sweet Jesus! Who shoots at Santa? and what has Santa stolen this time? instead of giving, she knew the boy shooting at Santa so she quickly shuts the shutter panting heavily that's James Bobby but why is he shooting at Santa.

Police siren could be heard faintly from a distance as it swerves nicely around and pauses at the front lawn, close to the house belonging to Mr. Johnson a man Devina married. He steps out of the vehicle pauses and took a deep breath and took a thick richly fog of smoke into his lungs, he puffs it drops the remaining content, and walked on Devina's front pouch.

Mama! Mama ! the police is at the door

Hush! Devina places her hands on her daughter's lips and she nodded in silently.

Ding dong!

Ding dong!

Ding dong! The doorbell keeps ringing

Devina inhales a deep breath and walked to the front door today is supposed to be a family meeting and it's already seven in the evening, her strangled husband is not back yet, her daughter is missing and has not yet returned from home.

Devina Johnson was visibly shaken as she took a deep breath and walked to the door as the policeman was about to press the bell, Devina quickly opened the door the officer jumped with one hand close to the gun holster  he was ready to pull out his Glock and shoot, Devina eyes him with contempt in her eyes, hello she said sharply

Good evening ma'am,

What can I do you for?

I am looking for Jeffery don Kurtis, he is your husband, right?

Devina quickly replied before he continues

No, he's no more I have served him divorce papers and he's yet to come home.

The policeman studied her, since when did you give your hus-, I mean Jeffery Kurtis the paper?

Last week, is everything alright officer?

Why are you asking me all this ?, am I in some sort of trouble?

No ma'am just wanted to be sure he's not around

Well, you can search the house, if you have your warrant instead of standing here, the streets don't take your kind likely.

Do you want to come inside the house?

Yes please, ma'am, he stepped in and she closed the door

This is one nervous cop,  Devina smiled,

What  is your name

Jason Alonso ma'am

you don't have a backup, why?

He chuckled nervously well am on my way to the station and I decided to drop by and speak with your husband

Wow Jeffrey never told me he wants to be the police or something

Nothing like that ma'am I just wanted a word with him, please when you see him around tell him Devon the cop checked we are classmates from junior high, the doorbell went off! Everybody jumped.

I will get it the cop volunteered,

No, I will, Devina replied

Devina got up and opened the door hoping to see Jeffery but saw another cop with Keysha her daughter.

Keysha where have you been, sorry mama I went to a friend's place she was having this party

Oh shut up and get in young lady, you are in big trouble

Speaking of trouble, I managed to hear some street boys trying to start troubles with her so I came to her rescue, my name is Chris ruggers oh Jason is already making himself comfortable I see.

Are you hurt, Devina quickly held her daughter in an embrace

No, ma'am, Keysha pulled out of her grasp, she seems embarrassed she's hugging her mother in front of the police she's seventeen while Jenny is eight years old both in high school.

Devina held her daughters and approached the cops slowly as you can see am fine with my daughters is there anything I should know?

No ma'am we are leaving,

Just like that? No questions, no search for drugs or whatever you two had in mind

They both chuckled oh no ma'am

Merry Christmas ma'am, we are just leaving  Jason added.

As they opened the door and stepped out, Chris ruggers turned back looking at Devina, your daughters are cute, he then whispers tell Jeffery to be careful before he gets accused.

What Devina looked surprised, accused of what she queries

What do you mean she moved closer to him but he waved and moved out faster.

The sounds of the music silent night were heard as the cops slowly drove away they both appear to be having a heated argument in the car as it drove off.
