There was a crowd that gathered around her as she was being rushed to the hospital by some passerby in an ambulance. Upon their arrival, there was no doctor on seat. She was left on the emergency bed in the reception area struggling for her life. The pain she was feeling became excruciating and almost unbearable. She decided that, if death wasn't going to find her, she wanted the pain gone. And she was willing to do anything to get rid of the pain she was feeling.
She couldn't stand bearing the pain another moment. So, when she saw the chance to save herself from a man dressed in a tuxedo, she took it. She kept looking at the man desperately as he was walking towards her. She couldn't quite make out his face. Everything was blurry, but she knew that if she wanted to survive she had to do something.
'Maybe if I could just touch him a bit he will take mercy on me and help me get treated' she convinced herself. As the man was about to walk past her, she held his hands tightly and begged him like her life depended on it:
'please help me!' she said inwardly. She couldn't speak out because of the pain she was feeling all over her body, but she spoke to him in her heart.
'Please save my life. The pain is unbearable.' She wished with every iota of her being that she could be heard. Yet the man she pinned her hope on was looking at her like she did something wrong she was unaware of. The man stopped he was shocked at the audaciousness of the girl lying on the emergency bed. 'Does this petite human know who I am?' He questioned himself inwardly. She must be clueless he thought. But he couldn't blame her. After all, she probably doesn't know who he is, in her sick state. If only she knew, she wouldn't dare to touch him.
Her hands were cold as ice, he noticed. He turned to look at her and then suddenly she opened her eyes. His eyes got caught in her silver eyes. They were the finest set he had ever seen. It glittered and his heart raced. Her eyes were charming; he couldn't look away after taking a glimpse at her. Her cheeks were covered in small freckles. Her skin was glowing like the moon. Her nose, although short, was pointed. Her lips were pink and luscious. She was beautiful and he was speechless. Her eyes fluttered closed and he knew he had to do something if she was to survive. All he could think of was seeing those pretty eyes again;
He carried her in his arms and took her into a ward, the nurses on duty followed him and stood by the corner assisting him as he administered some medication to her.
After a while she was stable and the young man and nurses walked out of the ward. They followed him as he was giving them instructions. He entered into one of the offices close to the ward where the girl was admitted and made himself comfortable as he awaited the doctor he had come to see initially.
Mahina opened her eyes at 1 am fully conscious to see herself in a well-furnished ward. She looked around carefully surveying every inch of the ward until her eye caught a glimpse of the name of the hospital written on one of the pictures hanging on the wall;
"E-li-tes... Elites? As in the Elites Hospital of NY city! What? What am I doing here? How on earth am I going to pay the bills for this hospital?" She stood up from the bed and carefully took out the IV Catheter and kept it by the side. She took small steps out of the room. And headed towards the exit. She didn't know someone was looking at her when she left her room until the alarm went on. The nurses gathered around her and she felt bashful and appalled. She smiled lightly at them and said;
"There is no need for you all to stress. Calm down. I was just going to get a cup of coffee. I am feeling thirsty" she tried to assure them but they were persistent.
"We can do that for you, miss. Please return to your ward" they politely begged her to comply.
"I don't think there is any point of me going back I feel better already" she assured them again, this time pleading with them with her gestures.
"We still need to observe you and you need to pay your hospital bills". They explained their points in detail to her. Emphasizing the need for her to pay her bills.
"Wait! I never asked to be brought here or treated here. This hospital is so damn expensive and I don't even have a job at the moment how am I supposed to cope with the bills. Please I don't want your treatment. Just let me go please." She begged seriously with tears in her eyes. She had never felt this forsaken before. How would she pay her share of the apartment bills she was sharing with her friend if the remaining money in her account gets taken away?
"Let her go", the silvery voice echoed in the hallway and everyone turned to look in the direction of the voice. Mahina's line of thoughts was disturbed by the voice. She turned to look at the man, unshaken by him. The nurse holding her freed her hands and cleared the road as the handsome muscular man approached.
Mahina continued looking at the man normally without showing any kind of reaction. She could see that he was tall dark and handsome. The man had one of those beautiful dreamy ocean-green eyes. They were almond-shaped and enthralling. His hair was as dark as the raven's and neatly combed to the side. His bristly eyebrows were the perfect set Mahina had ever seen. He had a hawkish nose, his lips were tempting to touch as they were plump, soft, smooth, and pinkish. He had the perfect jawline that could make anyone suddenly feel dreamy. In all, he was handsome in every way.
After a while of staring, Mahina who was almost intimidated adjusted her standing posture as she awaited what was to come from the man approaching her. He was handsome, yes. His eyes were captivating. Yes. But something else was hidden behind his stare and it sent fear down her spine. Every second was like a minute and minutes like hours as her gaze remained on him unmoving.
When he was close enough to her, he took her curly strands of disheveled hair in his hands and felt the texture with his hands for a while then gently he tucked it behind her ears. He did all this while looking deeply into her eyes. When he opened his lips, he said;
"Silky! And beautiful". The nurses who were around them at the moment turned to look at what was happening. Mahina was astounded. 'What is this man getting at? Is he playing with me?... I know I look a mess but...'
"What?" She questioned him with her head tilted to the side still in awe of what was happening.
"Go home!" he commanded and just like that he turned to leave with his hands in his pockets.
"What?... Just like that?" She was amazed and confused at the same time. The people around her stared at her in disbelief at her audaciousness. She was aware of their gaze and she knew her question sounded a bit foolish but 'nobody gives out free handouts these days, right?' She didn't want to be indebted, she needed to know what awaited her so she persisted;
"I am sorry but...What is in this for you… I mean I don't even know you, why are you helping me?" she yelled and got his attention. He stopped and turned to look at her. He was calm and unshaken by her question. But he was surprised by her audaciousness;
"Come here" he commanded, in a husky tone. She took slow confused strides to where he was standing. When she was in front of him, as he stretched out his hands to take her identity card that was hanging around her neck, she flinched but he smiled as he snapped the details with his smartphone. He looked directly into her eyes and said;
"If that is the case... I know how to get what I want".
