The Preparation for Prom.
After school, that day, Anthonia and I, unfortunately, didn't go home together, as she received an urgent call to come home, so the discussion was postponed for another time, say it was a relief for me is an understatement, I took the school bus and headed home because by now my father must have dropped off my sister from school. She will probably be hungry now because my mother never leaves any meal for us to eat so I always stand as the chef in the afternoon most time when I get home. Sometimes my father gets us takeaways to lessen the workload on me.
Immediately I got home I went to my sister's room to make sure she has eaten something before heading for my room to do my homework because I don't joke with my schoolwork. Janet was asleep when I step in and this gave me a cause for concern because she never sleeps in the afternoon except when she is sick or sad from being bullied I'm school. I rushed into the room and touch her head to feel her temperature, which was quite normal. Then I discovered someone has troubled her in school again and probably said some hurtful things to her. Well, I decided to let her have a few rests before coming to wake her up to know what might be the root cause of her sleep.
I discovered my dad has gotten us food from an eatery before dropping off my sister, so I took my meal and went to my room to refresh, eat and sit down to do my assignment.
I went into the bathroom took a shower, cleaned my body then put on tight pants and l put on a blue t-shirt too. I made my hair into a ponytail before sitting to do my homework I decided to check on my phone to send if there was any message to reply. It was just a message for Antonia reminding me that she is not coming over again as she has promised earlier before we parted because her mother needs to help her with some catering job as she has a very big delivery by the weekend and most of her employees are busy trying to meet up with some other deliveries so the workload was too much for her as such she needs her help. You see she is the only girl in the family while her other two siblings are boys and still very young. She said that our unfinished business will be completed tomorrow, unfailingly. I know she won't let me be until she gets the full gist from me.
I sent a message to her that I will let her know when we meet tomorrow and that she should also remember to bring a cake for my sister and me. I know my sister like Antonia because of the cakes she gets from her.
You see, Janet has a sweet tooth and she will give anything for a chocolate cake but my mother always makes sure to remind me to cheek on what she eats which I have so far, manage to keep in check.
After I reply to Antonia's message, I sat down to do my assignments which did not take me more than an hour to finish.
I also decided to take a nap before going to check on my sister again and prepare dinner before my parents comes back home.
I felt someone tapping me on my hand trying to wake me up and was wondering who the person was, on opening my eyes I saw Janet standing beside me and was awake and had been tapping me on my hand trying to wake me up, I quickly stood up and was worried when I saw her sad face.
Christy: Janet are you alright?
I asked why checking on her temperatures again but it seem to be okay and I was wondering what might be the problem with her
Janet: Big sis, that boy I told you about in the school that is always troubling me is at it again.
I knew there must be something wrong, this particular boy has been troubling her ever since my father enrolled her in that school and I have told her to try and be nice to him, maybe he will stop troubling, her. It is a while since she complained about him and I have given up the idea of making my father know about this but I think I need to let him know so that he can do something about him because my father might not want to do anything about it if I don't tell him. He will probably think my sister is the one at fault because she can be very naughty at times.
Christy: But I asked you to be nice to him, are you sure you did not provoke him?
I asked her and from her reaction, I think she is not the one at fault here.
Janet: I did not do anything to him, I even gave him some of my chocolate today but he just started making me cry by pulling my hair and hitting me on my belly. I was having pain in my tummy that made me sleep but am okay now because I took one of those tablets you always have me take when am in pain.
Christy: That is very good of you, don't worry I will tell dad to do something about it tomorrow when he drops you off at school
Janet: Okay thank you, Sis. Please, don't forget to tell him?
She says to me and hugged me and I use my hand to pat her on her head. I know she always depends on me for her assignments which she brings from school so I asked if she has done her assignment to my surprise she said she did it when she discovered I was sleeping. This is a good change coming from her I must say because she always waits on me for her assignment
Janet: I have done my assignment, let me get them so you can help me see if they are correct.
She runs to her room to get them and after going through them for some time I told her it was okay and we both headed downstairs to prepare dinner. She loves assisting in the kitchen. Both of us prepared dinner and eat our meal while leaving our parent's food in a cooler to keep it warm until they get back.
By seven my parents, both came back and I set the table for them to eat before taking my sister to her room for the night. While I was telling my sister her bedtime story my mother call out to me to come downstairs which I immediately did as my sister is asleep already.
Mother: What is this that you set before us as a meal?
She is never satisfied with whatever I do, I wonder why she always complained about me.
Daddy: Honey, this food is still okay and we can manage it for tonight, Princess you can go to bed now become tomorrow is also a school day and I don't want you waking up late
I stood there almost in tears but obeyed my father then rush to my room not happy with my mother's reaction to my cooking. She always looks for a way to discriminate against anything I do
I could hear my father asking my other to stop making me look useless as the meal taste good and she doesn't have to be mean to me. I never listen to the end of their conversation as I bury my head in my book to read through for some time before going to bed. After reading for some time, I decided to sleep for the night.
The next day at school when it was lunchtime Antonia and me were having lunch when she brought up the issue from the previous day and I guess I don't have an option but to tell her what she is dying to her.
Christy: Guess who ask me to the Prom?
You see Antonia is just my friend in just every class of mine. She spent most of her time in my house and I also spend my time in her's too when she is not in mine that is when my parents are at home to care for my sister or if my sister wants to be with Antonia.
My parents know her and has also become friends with her parents too because of our friendship, she adores my little sister too and treats her like they are sister. Antonia is nothing compared to me, she is brave and outspoken. She has a tan complexion due to her love for sunbathing.
Antonia: Hey girl, you know am not good at guessing games, so just spit it out.
She said to me as we continue to eat our lunch and I looked at her shaking my head because she never disappoint me.
Christy: The less person I expected and he came with a speech that has my leg going weak and I could help but giggle?
I am trying to make her eager for the gist of my date for Prom.
Antonia: Girl do you want to make me go crazy with this guessing puzzle? Just give it to me.
Christy: It was no other person but my crush, Eric, it was a magical way of asking anyone out.
I saw the shock look on her face and she burst out shouting
Antonia: No, you are kidding, how did that happen? What fairy did you ask to cast a spell on him?
Christy: I asked him as well but do you know what he told me?
Antonia: Girl give me the ten out of ten of the gist, I don't want you leaving out any details of his words.
Christy: He told me I was different from all the others
Antonia: Wow! am I dreaming or just not hearing right?
Christy: He said he preferred me because I am simple and a natural.
Antonia: Are you for real? Did he say that to you? You are not making this up, are you?
I know she will not believe me, that was why I was a bit reluctant to tell her
Christy: I also zoned out when he came asking me to be his girl for the prom, see I had to use my nails to dig into my palm and it left this scar in my hand.
I said while stretching out my hand for her to see it. She always acts like a doubting Thomas. She never believes unless there is proof.
Antonia: Girl you have just given me the most surprising news of my life. So what are you wearing for that day? I think we need to go to a shopping fair and your hair needs fixing too.
Christy: I was thinking of taking that red dress I wore to the party last month.
I told her because I know going shopping with Antonia is like passing through hell right now.
Antonia: Chris are you for real, we need to put that beauty of ours on display for that prom and make those freaks look inferior, so girl we are getting a new dress and a makeover.
Christy: I know there is no going back with you, so when are we going shopping?
Antonia: Yeah, we are going this Saturday because the prom is in three weeks. And we will be going to make our hair a day before the prom.
She says because she always likes being in control. I know there is no of getting out of this. I hate going shopping and with someone like Antonia, you can imagine the stress that I am going to face on that day
Christy: There will be a little problem because I have to babysit my sister as my parents will be out of town.
I explained to her, trying to discourage her from going and avoiding going shopping.
Antonia: Am not hearing any of that, you know your sister has never been a problem, we are all going together or she can stay with my parents, she has no problem with my parents because they love her like a daughter.
I rolled my eyes at her because there is no way am getting out of this. When she is out for something, she makes sure to get it
Christy: I know am in your cage and there is no going back, so I have no choice but to tag along. What time are we leaving? I don't want my sister coming with us because she won't leave the mall without spending every dime on us. She just loves to go shopping and always ask for everything that caught her eye, she will stay with your parents then.
Janet loves buying things with no care for money so going with us was out of the question.
Antonia: We leave by noon and I will be there by 11 a. m to pick you up so I can drop off your sister at my house and then we head for the mall.
Christy: That is fine by me. So what class do we have next?
I asked her because she is also someone that doesn't joke with her studies despite her lifestyle, education is something she holds dear to her.
Antonia: We are having English and I hope you are through with your project? You know she doesn't joke with any assignment she gives us.
Speaking of our English professor, he was a strict person and if you don't want to be reported to your parents, so everyone keeps up to date with her work.
Christy: My project is ready too and we need to finish up our meal because the bell will soon go off now.
We heard the bell ringing as I finish speaking and we finish up our food then head for the class.
