Alanna started to open her eyes. Her head was throbbing, which didn't make any sense. Certain human sensations she had no more recollection of what they were like. She heard distant voices and recognized Faolán's. Lifting her hand to her head, she sat up in bed.
"Love, what happened?" she asked, but heard no answer, but as if the voices continued talking, not realizing she was awake.
Alanna opened her eyes and saw everything dark. Then, in the distance, a small window. She straightened to get out of bed, but the bed was shrouded in darkness. She carefully placed her foot where the floor should have been. She felt nothing.
"What's the worst that can happen? I fall? It's not like I'm going to die, is it?" She spoke aloud. Alanna got up quickly, and then nothing. She didn't feel anything under her feet, but then again, she didn't fall. She shrugged and walked towards the small window. The only colorful thing there, besides the bed.
