Chapter 28 - The Combat class

Finally, after being unable to choose one among the four weapons, I decided to ask the Combat instructor for advice, since he is a veteran and must have more experience and insight on these types of weapons.

Sometimes experience and insight of an expert are more important than the information printed in a book. Well, there may be some topics that are an exception to the case, but when it comes to combat a book can never rival the vast knowledge and experience of an expert.

After formulating this conclusion I gave up on finding more information on the weapons and decided to proceed with my language studies with the books on various types of combat techniques of my selected four weapons.

Since, according to my agreement with higher-ups of the academy, I may be sent to another kingdom after my language skills improved, and I don't think the higher-ups will allow me to continue roaming carefree within the premises of the academy.

Basically, they would just directly throw me out, and even if that isn't the case I am more than 100 ℅ sure after how I am planning to not fully comply with their plan I am sure they won't really want me taking advantage of any kind of benefits from the academy.

Therefore, I should make use of the opportunities and try to improve myself as much as possible without wasting them. And truth to be told compared to the other sections of the library this combat techniques section has more language similarities with the ancient records that I was using for my reference.

Because almost all of these techniques were either created or passed down from the same generation of those records and so the techniques were also written in the same language module. So it was manageable for me to understand.

And with that, the rest of my time before the combat class was spent reading about an attack-type combat technique for the straight single-edge slim swords called 'Star slicer'.

[Author: Man! what a terrible naming sense, people who come up with names like these should just hang themselves by a handkerchief. ]

It's a sword quickdraw technique with four different stances and four forms that has a star-shaped attack pattern and someone can perform it all together and cut any enemy into six pieces in a star-shaped cut that is where the name came from.

And the most crucial thing about this technique is that it can be performed by any type of mana, it isn't specifically designed for any type of mana but the technique may produce different effects and momentum based on the mana used.

For example, if the sword draw was amplified with wind mana the attacks would be faster and sharper, while if the quickdraw was amplified with water mana the attack would be smooth and steady.

After going through the movements of the technique, I closed my eyes and started imagining myself performing the technique with an imaginary sword on my belt after trying it out a few times, the others in the library started giving me the looks.

Not being able to control my enthusiasm and being unable to stand the unpleasant looks from the librarian, I immediately left the library and went to the field storage room to find a sword to practice my newly learned techniques.

Not wanting to get into trouble for touching any of the good-looking swords that were on the shelves.

I moved to the blunt swords that were picked like trash at a corner of the room because all those excellent swords on shelves belong to the guards of the academy, and if any of us students were to touch them, well they won't be beaten but still, the aftermath won't be a pleasant one.

Searching through the piled-up swords in the corner of the room, I was able to find a blunt sword that fits all my requirements. The single edge sword was half my size and it was one of the few swords that actually had a sheath for itself.

And the sword didn't have a guard, well actually most of the swords on the plie didn't have a proper handle guard in them but this sword seems to have been build this way.

It seems to be a hidden blade and with its plain grey wooden sheath and handle it looked more like a blind man's walking stick than a sword.

[ Author: isn't that sword Fujitora's shikomizue, someone catch this guy, for he has stolen a weapon from a poor blind man ]

[ Isaac: I hope someone would sue you for copyright]

[Author: Hello, I suddenly feel like my phone isn't working anymore hello.... *click* ....]

Having chosen a new sword for myself, I then went to find a scabbard belt, which would allow me to attach the sword to my side, but my bad luck I was only able to find a belt that would attach my sword to the back of the hip.

I tried to strap it to the side, but if I do so the belt completely hinders my access to the pockets, so I decided to attach it to the back of my hip in a slanted way so it doesn't hinder me when I'm passing through the doors.

With the weapon all set and done, I walked out of the storage in a sassy manner, suddenly I had a feeling of someone spying on me.

With any second thought I immediately tried to take my sword and the moment I placed my hand on the sword, a group of assassins tried to ambush me out of nowhere.

Not panicking at even the slightest, I made a quick draw 'Star Slicer', and with a single swipe from my sword I took down more than half of the assassins, and just I was about to kill the rest suddenly the roof collapsed and a dragon descends in front of me and after a tough battle just as was about to behead It...

[Author: Hello, Earth to Isaac, please control your wild imaginations, and sorry to break it to you, but a 'twig' holding a toothpick won't be able to hurt a dragon!!!]

*Ahem...*

So after selecting my weapon and since it was already time for the combat class to begin I directly went to the spot on the field which had training dummies for beginners to attend my first combat class.

When I entered the class almost all the seats in the front lines were already taken and people were already sitting on the ground in an orderly manner in front of a middle-aged man.

Seems like the instructor for our group, the man had a well-built frame, was 7 to 7.5 feet tall, and he had no scar on his face.

[Author: Wait isn't scarred face a must for instructors, and don't tell me he isn't bald either ]

And no he wasn't bald either, he had salt and pepper long hair which was made into a bunny knot on the back of his head.

[Author: If we are getting a Netflix adaptation I want Henry Cavill in this role. ]

He had healthy tanned skin and with his green eyes and the broad sword on his back he was giving off a fierce aura.

Just by his presence alone, he was giving me a dangerous feeling that made my instinct ring all kinds of alarms in my head to stay as far as possible from this man.

Suddenly I had a reflection, If an instructor for just the people 'chosen' by a single lesser god is this powerful, then what level would be the instructor for people who are chosen by two gods be, and what level would be the instructor for Owen's group and Calton's be, I couldn't even come up with an example to imagine their levels.

Just thinking about their level is giving me goosebumps but the unfortunate me wouldn't be able to attend the classes of that level even if I defeat them and prove my worth since I am a cripple and not an actual 'chosen' candidate.

Man, what kind of good deeds did these guys do in their past lives to be this blessed even after being summoned to another world. I am pretty sure these guys aren't capable of saving any universe maybe they offered their wives as a gift to some God to get some of this extra luck.

I am not sure about Owen since he isn't that type but the bastard Calton if possible, would have opened a brothel for all gods and freely pimped his entire family.

Leaving the topic about that shameless bastard aside, I Swiftly made way to the front line, sat down at the corner, closed my eyes, and recalled the 'Star slicer' sword art while waiting for the instructor to begin the class.
