Chapter 29 - The necessary change part 2

PoV Diego

The ruined city was bigger than I thought. Seth was walking in front of me using the body of his former father, carrying on his shoulders his mother. His abilities work vastly differently from what I imagined. He can absorb the dead and then take their form.

We were walking in the middle of the street on what once was a commercial street. Some of the old shops had their gates closed, with the signs still intact.

Most of the street lights were either destroyed or not working. The homeless people were gathered mostly around the many ruins. They would leave the majority of their excrement on the street, close to the many rotting corpses.

'No wonder he's an odd one compared to the rest of them.'

Seith was not as talkative as most other weapons, although his brother was even less active than him. He never really stood out. He's a lot more reserved and easy to anger, it seems, but that may be just this particular topic. His brother seems just like a male version of Fury, a goody-two-shoes with a strong distaste for killing.

'They surely are a unique pair of siblings. I wonder where the others ended up.'

We ended up walking through the fallen city for the whole night. My feet were seriously hurting when we finally reached our destination. The main road led to a special wall covered in barbed wire. It had many surveillance cameras all across the wall.

In front of us was a gate that had some armed guards. They were not heavily armored. They had very little in the way of protection. At best, they looked like a worn-out bulletproof vest, and that was the kindest way I could've described them.

As soon as Seth got close enough, they started pointing their guns at him.

"Yo!" I said to break the tension.

"State your business." said one of the guards, gesturing with his hands for us to get on our knees while the other kept his finger on the trigger.

"We want to meet with Barges." Said Seith while getting on his knees and putting his hands behind his head.

"On the ground!" shouted the guard that was the furthest from me.

"Seith, in case I kill them, how much of a problem will it be in the future?" I whispered to him.

"You really don't want to kill them. The whole city will be hunting you like a rabid dog."

"Well, that settles it."

I quickly pulled out the gun, and before I could even pull the trigger, I was met with a barrage of projectiles.

First reset.

'I should've expected that.'

I then picked up the handgun and my underwear from the ground.

'I don't like to show my junk to every enemy I face, not that I have anything to hide.'

Dubir: Sure, sure, if you say that for long enough, you'll believe it.

'Shut!'

As I started walking towards the gate, I started noticing that this time around I released far more gas than usual. It ended up covering an area of over 30 square meters.

'Is it because lately I haven't used it that much?'

"Come at me, bastards! I'll kill every single one of you!" suddenly yelled one of the guards while shooting in random directions.

I tried to close the gap to kill him, but then he shot directly at my feet.

"FUCK!"

"DIE!" Strangely enough, he didn't try to shoot at me again; he simply turned and started firing at random while slowly backing away towards the gate.

'Is he hallucinating? Why isn't he coughing while inhaling my gas?'

I tried to walk towards him, but then I tripped on the corpse of the second guard.

'Just how thick is this fog anyway? I can barely make out my hands…'

Thankfully, his gun was completely intact. It was a small, fully automatic gun with a half-empty magazine. The rifle had blown up and was apparently what killed the guy.

I then used his gun to kill the rampaging guy. I then walked on all fours back to where I left my clothes and put everything back except for the sock and shoe on the injured foot.

Once I passed through the gate, I was met by a long, black limousine. It had a small golden dragon wrapped around a cyclops on the front. The windows were blackened. There were also red lights coming from the bottom of the car and behind the tires.

"When did this get here?"

Seith: They arrived just now.

As I got closer to the car, the trunk opened. I ignored it and walked past it, and then someone in the car honked at me twice.

I tried to open the door, but it was locked from the inside, so I tried to use my ability to make my arm go past the window. As soon as I did so, they started honking like crazy, so I backed off a bit.

'How annoying. Well, I have nothing to lose anyway, so let's follow them.'

So with a bit of reluctance, I tucked myself into the trunk of the car. Since it was too small for me, I had to also use my ability to make my legs rest on the back seats. They were surprisingly comfortable and soft.

"Ahem, I know that lately you've been worried sick about the apparent new army those uggly pigs seemed to have cultivated out of nowhere, but worry not because we ourselves have got a new trump card stronger than those monsters!" Said Jhonny to all those thugs.

'Alright, Diego, a strong impression. That's easy to do, right?'

As I walked inside the room, I noticed that most of the people seated around the square table in front of the door were, for the most part, elderly.

The room wasn't very decorated. There were a bunch of computers and printers in the back. There were some small plants near the window. The room was mostly white, with the walls having an extremely light blue undertone.

"He's the leader of the God warriors summoned by the Affith.'' he continued to explain, while also gesturing with his hands for me to come closer.

"We all know how wary they are of us. They dared to drive heavy armored vehicles on our streets as if they belonged to them. This is the man that single handedly dealt with them as well as murdered most of our people that worked in one of our buildings."

"So he's the one that killed my boys?" Asked one of the men in the audience.

"Yes." I answered.

"Why is he still alive?" He asked him.

"It was just a small misunderstanding, plus they were very rude to our-"

One of the bodyguards then raised his gun. I couldn't use my ability to avoid it, as that would kill Johnny, since he was next to me and lined up for the shot.

"Fury!"

I used my aura to set the guard on fire.

At first he was startled and tried to shoot, but both projectiles landed on Fury's massive body. He tried to put out the fire, but since I kept giving the flames my aura no matter how much he rolled on the ground, the fire simply wouldn't die out.

Then the soldier started using a fire extinguisher. As I started looking around, I noticed that the rest of the guards had taken their weapons and were pointing them at me.

"You can count this as a display of my power." I said this while taking out the handgun I had stolen a couple of days prior and shooting the soldier with the fire extinguisher.

As soon as I took out the gun, every other soldier started shooting, but to no effect. As I tried to pull the trigger once more, I realized that was my last bullet.

I then simply charged at them. Then one of them tried to point his gun at my feet. I used the body of Dubir to cover the muzzle, then I swung the axe upwards, trying to cut off his hand. I couldn't cut it completely, but I managed to at least render his dominant hand useless.

"Dubir"

I then used the sword to pierce his neck while he was trying to back away.

"Frey!"

I tried to throw the spear towards the closest guard, but one of the bullets managed to hit my fingers, making me drop the spear.

'How dare these ants…'

I immediately used the reset. I summoned Seith and used him to finish off the last two bodyguards present in the room.

For the next half an hour, I had to patiently escort each geezer that had remained a victim of my gas. For some reason, it was no longer lethal, but I'm sure they weren't having a nice trip judging by their terrified expressions.

Johnny had managed to escape and had inhaled just a little bit of my gas. I realized this because he was all curled up in a corner of the bathroom stall, crying and peeing himself. Sometimes he would say "I'm sorry" or "That was not my fault".

"Get a grip on yourself; it's just an illusion!" I shouted at him, but it took almost an hour for him to come back to his senses, and when he did, he had a dead look on his face, his eyes had swollen from how much he had cried, and he had snot all over his face.

'Out of all the elderly present, a couple of them died. I still prefer the old effect, but this one seems just as useful.'

Unsurprisingly (except for Johnny) I never saw them again.

PoV Daniel

The place was filled to the brim with what looked like human-wolf hybrids. Most of them had either black or brown fur. Most of them had blue eyes, and very few had golden eyes.

We were at a certain excavation site. They were using some weird machines and were also using aura to keep the place stable.

"This is… They really outdid themselves in the process of refining their aura." Kane stated this as he examined the machines.

"Is this better than what we have at home?" Asked Nassus.

"Probably not." Kane replied.

"Then it's useless to even look at." He then pushed him forward.

The excavation site was uncovering the ruins of an ancient city.

"There's nothing mysterious about this; our goal is the well of this ruin." Christ drew Kane back from wandering on his own.

"But I don't see a well here." Said Nassus.

"Don't worry, I memorized the location. The problem comes when we start uncovering it. For some reason, there are already enemies on the way. Their objective is to kill the people that live on this planet as well as destroy the ruins."

"Couldn't you deal with that on your own?" Asked Kane.

"No, mainly because as I try to mess around with the seal, God's army also comes to the scene."

"The god of war's army?" I asked.

"No. Daniel, don't ask a stupid question, ok? We don't have that much time."

'What part of that question was dumb?'

"Anyway, Daniel, keep a portal open connected to the emperor's chamber and stay there; the mere smell of his mana should be enough to deter any possible assassin. Do not wander on your own." Chris warned me.

Chris then started using his own aura to move the ground beneath him, revealing the well we were searching for. Kane and Nassus then joined him and cleaned out the well of the dirt that was filling it until the very bottom of it.

Then Kane and Chris came back. In the meantime, a huge spaceship descended from the skies. Then that spaceship opened many portals in the skies. From there, many other ships flooded the place. They weren't particularly big, but there were so many that it was as if they were trying to cover the entire sky with their sheer numbers.

I created the portal and went back to our complex, then I created many portals to bring Joy and Setos back. Only after having evacuated the little kids to Florine's house and summoned all the squad into one place did I hide in the emperor's castle while keeping a portal open to check what they were doing.

"Keep an eye on that portal; if anything bad happens, you can blame Chris." I said.
