Worried, nervous and excited all at the same time. I arrived at the university. I went inside.
Walking down the hall, I saw my friends. They greeted me and I did the same. I left them first and went into the library to check if Haena is already here.
I saw her inside, studying but when I got closer, I noticed that the book isn't even open. I stopped walking. She's just staring at the book laid down at the table. Unusual. But I think I can guess why.
I was approaching her again when someone sat down across of her.
No response.
Finally, after 10 seconds or more, A-Yeong greeted the woman while waving her palm at Haena's face that made the latter get pulled back to reality.
I just silently watched with an amused expression on my face but feeling not good.
"Good morning", I heard A-Yeong say while having a worried and.. amused expression if I see clearly. Haena just whispered 'Good morning', probably because she's in the library.
"What are you doing?" A-Yeong took the initiative in the conversation. Haena opened the book in front of her.
"Reading." Short response came from Haena. She had her eyes on the book, reading not looking at A-Yeong who's talking to her.
"You weren't reading though. You were in a daze." A-Yeong stated. Haena got surprised a little then went back to reading.
"You saw?" Haena said, lower than a whisper. Her head still down cause she's reading.
A-Yeong whispered a yes. Haena then sighed and stood up after. Her gaze followed Haena's movements. "Where are you going?" She asked.
"Classroom." She replied, still getting her things and putting it in her bag.
"But the class hasn't even started?" She questioned. Haena finally stopped and look at A-Yeong. A-Yeong tried to avert her gaze but was too late when Haena answered her.
"So I can't?" Haena answered with a question. It didn't sound sarcastic or anything that made A-Yeong smile.
Why are you smiling? Haena wanted to ask but restrained herself from doing so.
She grabbed her bag and walked away from the table. She was heading outside of the library when she saw me standing with a smirk in my face.
"Since when were you here?" She asked me but I just shrug my shoulders, wanting to tease her.
She elbowed me then walked straight to the exit. I still had the smirk in my face. I was about to follow her when someone called me. I turned around and saw A-Yeong.
"Were you about to leave?" She asked the moment I turned around.
"Yes." I answered her and before she could say anything, I spoke again. "But I could spare a few minutes. Class haven't started yet. There's plenty of time."
I looked at my watch and saw it was only 7:30 am. I still have 30 minutes.
"Can I talk to you about that again?" She asked, her eyes staring right through me. "I want to clear things up."
"Sure."
"Privately."
She started to walk out of the library and I followed. It seems she knew the way around here as she went to some classroom that's empty. Even I didn't know this room existed.
"You know the way around here?" I asked, amazed from the doorway looking at the classroom. Completely empty. "Looks like it hasn't been used for quite some time." I said, referring to the classroom.
It wasn't dusty but it's not exactly clean neither. It looks like this room is cleaned once or twice a month.
"Dad used to tell me about this university." She said, looking around the room as if it is an art. "He would tell me stories of when he studied here and that he met mom here."
"That's how it became my goal to go here." She spoke again.
Right, this university is your dream school. Haena, why did you go here? Your dream university was different. But you suddenly applied here. Is it because of A-Yeong? Then why, what caused you to cheat? Did you really cheat? Because I know, I saw it from your eyes, that you love her, you love her so much, you're willing to risk something important.
"Did she say anything?" I looked at A-Yeong with eyes that feels sorry for someone. "I want to know. Know why she did it." She spoke, her eyes making contact with mine.
My throat felt dry but I forced myself to speak, "She.. averts my gaze whenever I bring it up. She changes the topic." I managed to say.
"Why won't she tell?" She mumbled to herself, now looking looking away and her gaze planted at the ceiling.
"Do you think she cheated on you?" I asked, simply because I want to hear her side.
"..."
I was about to speak again when she replied.
"No. I don't think she did. She's not that type of person. She's that kind of person who'll do anything to cheer you up, who'll tell you that she loves you multiple times every day to make sure you know it, the type of person who'll comfort you when you're down, the type of person who doesn't make any promises physically but I know she did. She's the kind of person who you'll just fall in love with."
"But why...? Why didn't she tell me that she didn't? That she didn't cheat and that she loves me. Why, why did the words I expected to hear didn't come?" She looked at me, tears running down on her cheeks. Her hands clenched.
My chest feels tight. I can't do anything. I walked towards her. My thumbs wiped away her tears. Her clenched hands, loosening. She just looked at me.
Those eyes that I once envied looked at me and I felt like someone is groping my heart. It hurts, so much.
"Haena is someone who'll risk something important for you. But I don't know what that is." I spoke, wanting to comfort her. I continued to wipe away her tears.
"Haena. She wasn't like what she is now. She was a kid, a joyful kid. An extrovert, I say. But when I met her again, she became the opposite. She wasn't joyful nor gloomy. She wasn't shy but she distanced herself." I stated.
I was the shy one between us. She pulled me to her joyful world. But suddenly one day, she didn't visit anymore. I went here to find her and I did but she wasn't the same anymore. She distanced herself. She tried to avoid me.
She was happy, very happy. But the happiness wasn't there anymore. And I saw her eyes, her eyes that told me she's broken, it shined. It was like it finally found what its living for.
It was you who made her world shine.
"She's like a dandelion.."
"Hm?"
"She's bright like the sun. She's that door of light I can go through then I can be saved. I am near it. But I stood. I was like foots away.
She, Haena smiled.
I.. I watched the light. It was too bright for me. It was a cure for my heart but it hurt my eyes. And before I knew it, I became blinded by the light, I was becoming greedy.
I'm comfortable in the dark, you know. Because its dark. I'm used to it. Simply because of that. I stood as the huge door I didn't know was there, covered the light and it closed.
Haena closed her right hand that was reaching out. Reaching out in the dark room of hers. The moonlight shone in the room.
I couldn't see it anymore.
My life changed in the way I didn't expect. She healed me. I became happy. It's too good to be true. It would be a new beginning to someone. But I wasn't someone. I am Haena Haurts. I am Haena Laurier. I.. am Haena.."
The smile then turned into a sad one.
"She said you were like a dandelion to her."
"Dandelion?
Brings back memories."
"Hmm?"
"Haena said she likes dandelion. When she sees it, she feels refreshed as if everything is suffocating her and the dandelion is there to help her breathe. The dandelion showed her a world.
I ranted, didn't I?"
A-Yeong finally moved her hands and wiped her tears.
"Let's go.
Time passes by quickly."
Why do I feel like you're not talking about the time right now..?
