Chapter 10 - Chapter X - Promotion Quest 1

Marcus was racing back to Vhul with the golden corpse in his arms. He knew he needed to rush and grab an introductory quest to learn how to dismantle monster corpses and all he had to do was bring 1 Giant Beetle Corpse to the NPC.

It took him a full 4 minutes to return back to town as he rushed straight to the small shack near the outskirts of town where the NPC who taught the butchery skill. As he opened the rickety wooden door open he heard the burly voice from behind the counter "Welcome Adventurer, how can I help you today?"

Marcus saw the short burgundy haired man whose head was more hair than skin as his large bushy eyebrows covered most of his forehead and an even larger beard covered everything from the nose and ears down. "I'd like to learn to dismantle monster corpses! I brought this for you to teach me!" He said as he urgently placed the Giant Beetle on the counter.

The NPC was shocked "This is such a rare creature, Goddess herself I've only heard rumors but never seen one before!" he exclaimed as he began examining the carcass. "You've done me a great service, young man, I'll teach you everything I know! Pay close attention now, I'll only show you this once and I hate repeating myself!"

Marcus focused his attention as the gruff man explained the intricacies of Butchery as he dismantled every part of the beetle.

Quest Completed!

Profession Skill Unlocked [Beginner Butchery] Level 1

Level Increased [Beginner Butcher] +1

Marcus was amazed! He had received an additional reward for unlocking the skill with a rare monster and was already level 2 is Butchery. This was a huge boon as professions required the player to start as a beginner and level them up to 100 before they're able to rank up:

Beginner

Apprentice

Journeyman

Expert

Artisan

Master

Grand Master

"Here are some parts of the beetle you can take with you, I hear these shells can make quite the durable gloves if given to a skilled tradesman, I'd recommend visiting Bhrag near the town center, he can certainly help you out young man! Here take this as well as my thanks for helping me achieve one of my dreams, it's not much but it's all I can spare."

4 Pristine Golden Beetle Shell

5 Silver

+1 Fame

The currency in the world is as follows:

100 Copper = 1 Silver

100 Silver = 1 Gold

1000 Gold = 1 Platinum

Marcus was elated, usually you only get the 4 cracked black beetle shells as part of a chain quest that awards the user with their first pair of gloves but pristine golden shells? On top of that he already received 500 copper and 1 more fame? He was excited as he would be able to upgrade his equipment after upgrading his class.

Marcus bowed to the NPC "Thank you for everything you've done, I will never forget your kindness and will work diligently to master the Butchery skill!"

The NPC rubbed his nose and laughed heartily. "Glad you understand the importance of Butchery, now get outta here boy!"

Marcus placed the shells into his inventory and spun on his heel as he exited the shop. Now Marcus was headed to the Adventurer's Hall in order to begin the Promotion Quest and unlock the first real class in The World.

Adventurer while an interesting class in theory was not really a viable one in the game. They learned no skills, no spells, and no abilities. But they could equip every weapon and armor in the game with no restrictions.

As he was strolling to the Adventurer's Hall, he couldn't help but recall back to his old friend ThunderHammer in his past life who stayed as the basic class. He didn't participate in professions, he didn't do any quests, didn't do dungeons, just stayed on the overworld map and grinded mobs day in and out.

Marcus had always tried to get him to promote but he would never listen. It was around when the level cap was 250 when he stopped hearing from him. He had always wondered if he promoted to a new class if he would have stuck around

Marcus exerted all his strength as he opened the giant doors into the Adventurer's Hall. Marcus looked around as there were many different NPC adventurers of different races sitting in a pub setting laughing and boisterous in between their contracts.

Marcus walked up to the counter and a female NPC greeted him "Welcome Adventurer, how may we help you today?"

"I'd like to take the Class Advancement Quest" Marcus replied.

The clerk smiled "Of course, there are a few prerequisites that must be met before one is able to advance to the next Class. First, one must have reached a minimum level of 5. Secondly, we require a tithe of 1 Silver coin. Lastly, we require at least 1 Fame."

Marcus thanked the butcher for the bonus reward otherwise he would have needed to complete essentially every quest in Vhul in order to obtain enough money for the quest.

Marcus placed the silver coin on the counter "Here you go, I have all requirements."

The clerk smiled and took the coin as her eyes lit up in a bright gold hue examining Marcus for a moment before the light dimmed from her eyes back to the normal black iris "Thank you adventurer, I see you do meet all requirements. There are three promotional paths one can take, Squire, Wizard, and Rogue. Which you like to take?"

Squire - A melee oriented class that retains the adventurer's ability to equip any weapon in the game.

Wizard - A magic oriented class that has powerful spells but weak physical skills.

Rogue - A stealth based class with powerful burst damage.

"Squire" Marcus replied, not needing to think about it. This was the path he took in his previous life and knew all the tests. This would help him increase the gap as he would be able to achieve the highest rank and reap the best rewards.

The NPC bowed once more smiling as she asked one final question "What difficulty would you like to attempt?"

"Chaos" Marcus seriously said back.
