"I love this song," you say as you turn up the volume, even though you have no idea what the song is. You still need the GPS, so you can't exactly turn your phone off completely. With the music this loud, you won't have to pay attention to it except to look at the map.
"Me too!" Anuja says. She doesn't notice as you stealthily dismiss the messages from Rex.
Once safely back home and in bed, you stay up for a while watching a show. You're just about to call it a night when your lamp turns off.
Lola looks up, her eyes fixed on the lamp, or maybe the space next to the lamp.
The light turns back on again. Then off. Then flickers back on.
Lola whimpers, but also wags her tail, like she's confused about whether to be scared or excited.
"Rex?" you ask the room. There's no one here to hear or judge you, so it's worth a shot.
The light flickers wildly, then the lightbulb burns out, leaving you and Lola in the dark.
