"Not exactly like this, but when I'm particularly friendly and polite, people tend to overlook things. Late homework assignments, for instance. Knowing what nice things people want to hear can be helpful. Likewise, knowing how to turn almost anything into a joke if need be can get you out of trouble on occasion.
