Perhaps it is her weakened state. She appears so frail, it must have taken the very last of her power to carry you to her.
You turn back to the mystics. Doria's words to them seem to have left the traitors cowed for now, but you cannot be sure how long their shame will hold them at bay.
Together, you and Doria lead the goddess out from the twisting cave, and down to the patch of ground where you left your horses—but when you come to the outcropping where the animals are tethered, a peculiar noise begins to fill the air. It is the sound of many birds, calling out to each other. A flock seems to be surrounding you, but you cannot see it anywhere.
The horses panic and break their ropes, galloping away into the Broken Hills. "What is this?" Doria wonders aloud. "More magic?"
Just as she speaks these words, the call of the invisible birds grows louder, more pervasive. A glowing portal appears in the night air, as though the phantom flock has summoned it into being!
