Chapter 3 - A First For Everything Part 2

"Ouch"

Crystal said within herself, "Did I hit a rock or a boulder?" She heard a voice while her head was still bowed trying to pick up her books asking her..."Hey, are you alright? You should watch where you're going next time."

As she was about to look up to see who it was she hit, she saw no one.

"Shocker.....someone was just here right? Or was it just me?"

Out of curiosity, she wanted to ask if anyone saw the person she hit but it finally struck her that she had a class to meet up with; on noticing this, she made her way to the classroom.

On getting to the classroom, all eyes were on her, including that of the teacher taking the class.

"May I help you, young lady? Or are you for this class?" the teacher asked.

"Y-yes sir" she stuttered

"Oh, is that so? Are you the new student by any chance?" the teacher continued with the interrogation.

"Y....yes sir I am. My name is Crystal Miller" she said, feeling highly uncomfortable this time with the interrogation and the stares from everyone in class.

"Okay, can I see your transcript please?"

"Of course sir" as she handed them over.

"Wow, a straight A's student. I'm impressed." said the teacher in amusement.

"You can have a seat now."

As she made her way to her assigned seat, she met with different glares that weren't so welcoming but she happened to roll with it.

The bell rung. Her first class was over and it was lunchtime. So straight to the cafeteria she went with her lunch pack made for her by her dad.

At the cafeteria, she was still welcomed with the same glares she had in class which was becoming more uncomfortable than normal. She got a place to sit far away from the glares and unwanted stares.

As she was about to dig in to her meal, she heard a voice behind her saying.....

"Mmmmm...Turkey Sandwich"

She immediately turned to see who that was and saw a figure beside her. He was tall, slender like an athlete who trained continuously for a marathon.

"Hello, I hope I didn't scare you?" he said

"Ummm....no you didn't. I was just startled that's all."

"Okay, that's good." he let out a sound of relief. "My name's Jason, by the way."

"Oh, and I'm...."

"Crystal...I know who you are." he cut her off

"How did you...."

"Know your name? I'm the eyes and ears of this place.... nothing gets passed me." he said with much seriousness and authority this time.

'He did it again....he cut me off. How rude and nonchalant of him', she thought.

"So how's your first day going, that's if you don't mind me asking?" he continued

"Well, it isn't over yet, is it? When it is, I'll let you know all about it." she chuckled

"Oh okay. That's nice to hear"

"I'll ask you then since you've promised to tell me all about it"

"Do we have a deal, Miss Miller?" he said, stretching out his hand for a firm shake

"Yes, I guess...." she said, giving him her hand

"Alright then.....just know if you have any problems trying to get a hang of the school area....lemme know ok?!"

"Sure...I guess....!!"

Lunch time was over....Phew what a relief....she was almost done for the day and no bad thing happened really....

.... Except for the guy she bumped into before her first class.

'How strange....he didn't yell at me for bumping into him...

Infact he showed concern about me.....that was very strange'....she kept on thinking about it and was cut off by the teacher's voice calling her name in the background of her thoughts.

"Miss Miller.....may I have your mind present in the class or would you like to be excused??"

"No sir.... my mind is right here in class."

"My apologies sir....." she said, finally regaining her thoughts.

The final school bell of the day rang and that meant she was done for the day; so she packed her things getting ready to vamoose until the teacher stopped her....

"Miss Miller, please wait a moment"

"Yes sir?" she halted at the door

"I know you're a straight A student at your former school but from today's lecture I noticed you were not concentrating?"

"Sir, it's nothing like that, I just had a rough day and...."

"I didn't ask you to make a comment Miss Miller, I was just giving you some piece of advice."

"All I'm saying to you is that you should keep up the good work here and don't disappoint yourself ok?" he continued

"Okay sir, I'll keep that in mind." Crystal said with a smile as she left the classroom.

On her way out of school, Jason noticed she was in a hurry and he ran after her in a swift motion....

"Hey new girl, why are you in a hurry?" he said running after her.

"I have a name Jason!" she said with a side grin.

"Yea I know. I just like calling you 'new girl' new girl."

"Oh gosh Jason, you're beginning to pester me you know?"

"I'm not pestering, I'm just requesting for my answer from earlier."

"What question Jason?" Crystal said this time in disgust.

"Slow down and answer me new girl."

"How was your first day today?"

Crystal all of a sudden looked at Jason with surprise but saw concern and friendliness in his eyes, "My day was okay....it wasn't too stressful." she said

"You happy now? Can I leave now Jason....I don't wanna miss the bus home."

"Sure, I've gotten my answer and I'm satisfied." he said with a wide smile.

Jason escorted her to the bus stop and got her in the bus and waved her goodbye.
