Chapter 15 - Pool of emotions

It was twenty-four hours before the extensive surgery. Petra was in a pool of so many emotions, she had tried various mechanisms to get herself in shape, but none seemed to be working for her.

Suddenly, her phone rang, causing her to almost help and the loud sound of the device. She muttered various curse words as she picked up the phone.

"Greetings, My name is Anderson Parker, a legal attorney for Mrs. Megan Thomas" Petra froze for a second. This was the first time she would be getting a call from a client.

"Am I unto Miss Petra Hills of St Gregory hospital?" His voice was sleek and calm, and the tone of confidence was just too fascinating.

"Yes, you are. How may I be of help to you."

"We have submitted a writ of summoning to the united States Jury, and you are to appear before the Jury tomorrow" Petra was in disbelief. Never in her life had she stood trial before the Jury. Meanwhile, the lines were still opened as Anderson Park was waiting for a reply from her.

"Are we together on this, ma'am?" He asked, getting impatient from a lack of response.

"But I have a surgery to perform at the hospital, and it cannot be shifted" There was no way she could attend the court session when she needed to handle Mrs. Walker.

"Then you will have to inform your lawyer to explain it in clear details to the judge before tomorrow. The reason behind this is because failure to appear before the court tomorrow, you will be heavily fined and be sanctioned appropriately."

"I will hire a lawyer and inform them about the scenarios at hand," Anderson hung up.

The anxiety that Petra had gotten over Mrs. Walker had increased, with the recent news that she had to appear before the court tomorrow.

She didn't have a lawyer, but she could arrange one immediately. She picked up her phone and began to dial an old friend of hers, who had been her late fiance's advocate for so many years.

"Well, hello Petra, what are the odds that you will reach out to me?" Petra smiled, hearing Sonia's voice one more time. It has been a long time since the duo had a proper conversation.

"I am not too good, Sonia."

"What seems to be the problem?" Sonia asked, the look of worry creasing her face.

"It is about Megan, Thoma's new wife. She has filed a lawsuit against me, and right now, I am to appear before the Jury tomorrow. The problem here is that I cannot possibly go to court. I have a surgical operation to perform on Mrs. Walker. I believe you know her?"

Of course, Sonia was aware of the woman's identity.

"I need your help, Sonia. I cannot face court tomorrow. I told her attorney about it, and he instructed me to hire a lawyer."

"This is a very trivial issue, my dear. We need to act as fast as possible. The court closes soon. I will be filing a letter to the court, informing them that you won't be able to appear before them as you have an important surgical operation to work upon."

This was the reason Petra loved Sonia. The latter has always seen other people's problems as her problem.

"How can I thank you enough?"

"You don't need to thank me. I need you to be mentally prepared for the surgery. I don't want any bad news coming from you again."

"Wait a minute, so you are aware of what happened?" Petra asked in disbelief.

"News spread fast, Petra. Although I never once believed all the allegations against you because I have seen how diligent your work and it is almost as though you cannot hurt a fly," Petra felt emotional. She was glad someone had faith in her and did not follow the multitude in their talks.

"So I will immediately be drafting out the letter. I need you to be, however, calm, and please have a good rest Petra. I don't need to see you in person to know that you are not physically and mentally stable. Your mental health is significant, my dear." Petra smiled.

"Thank you very much, and certainly, I would take a rest with time" She hung up and turned to the window.

"She noticed Clark and Mitchell having a conversation, and she saw the body language of Mitchell was indicating that it was very secretive.

Whatever the duo was talking about, Petra didn't care a bit. All she wanted was for them to stay off her business after the allegation they laid against her the last time.

***

Please, Clark, I am sorry for my actions" Clark folded her arms, not in the mood for Mitchell's begging as he presumed it was irritating him a lot.

"How can I forgive you, Mitchell? You harmed my nephew and ruined everything for his mother, my sister. If there is one thing I don't joke with, it is family. When you touch my family, you have touched me also" Mitchell was in tears as Clark was not ready to listen to anything she had to say.

"If you don't have anything to say, I beg to take my leave" Before he could go, Mitchell held him back, and the moment Clark turned around to face her, he wanted to react, but she captured his mouth in intense kissing.

Clark was speechless, and the kiss was slow but passionate. So passionate that he didn't have a choice but to kiss her back.

"What was that for?" Clark asked, immediately they broke out of the kiss.

"We have been working in this hospital for quite some time now. And most of this time, I have been concealing my feelings for you. I am not begging because of the child, but for fear of losing you.

Call me insane, but the truth remains that I love you, Mitchell, and it is with my whole heart."

Clark stared at her in disbelief. Never had he imagined that Mitchell would ever like him. Indeed she was beautiful and intelligent, but what she did against the boy was outrageous, and he would love to be hunted by it.

"What do you say?" Mitchell asked, freaking out by the lack of response that Clark was giving her.

He walked up to her, and for a moment, Mitchell believed that he would accept her proposal, but he did, which shocked her to the core.

Clark gave her a resounding slap that almost caused her to lose her eyesight before heading away.

Mitchell stood there speechless. This would be the first time a man would lay her hands on her. Due to this reason, her feelings for Clark died down almost immediately.

She was not the type to quickly fall in love with abusive people and judging from the slap she had just received, Clark was undoubtedly a mean person.

Meanwhile, Mitchell was with Anderson Park when he had made the call to Petra, and seeing how positively she had responded, and she smiled inwardly to herself.

"I am almost certain that she would not come over to the court tomorrow."

"I want to understand something here, Mrs. Megan, and I want you to be honest with me as possible. I wish to know whether or not you are seeking Justice for your husband." Megan was irritated by the man's questioning.

"I hired you to do a job for me and not to question me. If I wanted to seek justice for my husband, I would not wish she would come to court tomorrow. Precise, I did it for the money. The fine she is to pay is a hundred million dollars, and this would serve as revenue to my kids and me; Thomas's wealth isn't enough to cater to our needs. Secondly, I am sure that if you do a clean job, I might as well pay you handsomely. What do you think?" Megan asked, smiling at the attorney.

Anderson removed his glasses and stared at Megan for a moment, the entire place was tense, and Megan was beginning to believe he would refuse when he said;

"I am for the money also. The menial jobs I do every day cannot fetch me the amount of money you will pay me" Megan smiled to Anderson, knowing that they were on the same page.
