Enzo was halfway out the door, straightening his cufflinks and adjusting the watch on his wrist, when he turned to Jessica.
"I'm trusting you to stay inside the compound," he said, his tone firm but not harsh. His eyes bore into hers, softening slightly when he noticed the uncertainty flitting across her face. "For your safety, love. Do you understand?"
Jessica nodded, chewing her lip nervously. "I'll stay," she promised, trying to ignore the heavy feeling of being left behind.
Satisfied, Enzo gave her a lingering kiss on the forehead before heading out.
The hours passed slowly. Jessica paced the living room, flipping through channels aimlessly. She couldn't deny that she felt restless—being cooped up in the mansion felt stifling.
The knock on the front door startled her. Jessica hesitated before answering, the words of Enzo's warning still fresh in her mind. But when she peeked through the side window, her breath caught.
