The Magic System – The magic system is based on a cooldown-based system often used in MMORPGs. Rather than magic being able to be used endlessly, the cooldown of a spell is reflected by its tier. There are 10 tiers of magic, with Tier 1 being the lowest. Cooldowns are held by an order-of-2 system; for example, 1st tier magic has a 4-second cooldown, 2nd has 8, and so on. To cast a spell, the mage must chant the full name of the spell.
The spells are listed below:
IchiFaia/1st Flame; IchiMizu/1st Water; IchiTochi/1st Earth; IchiKaze/1st Wind; 4
seconds
NiFaia/2nd Flame; NiMizu/2nd Water; NiTochi/2nd Earth; NiKaze/2nd Wind; 8
seconds
SanFaia/3rd Flame; SanMizu/3rd Water; SanTochi/3rd Earth; SanKaze/3rd Wind; 16 seconds
ShiFaia/4th Flame; ShiMizu/4th Water; ShiTochi/4th Earth; ShiKaze/4th Wind; 32 seconds
GoFaia/5th Flame; GoMizu/5th Water; GoTochi/5th Earth; GoKaze/5th Wind; 64 seconds
RokuFaia/6th Flame; RokuMizu/6th Water; RokuTochi/6th Earth; RokuKaze/6th Wind; 128 seconds
NanaFaia/7th Flame; NanaMizu/7th Water; NanaTochi/7th Earth; NanaKaze/7th Wind; 256 seconds
HachiFaia/8th Flame; HachiMizu/8th Water; HachiTochi/8th Earth; HachiKaze/8th Wind; 512 seconds
KyuuFaia/9th Flame; KyuuMizu/9th Water; KyuuTochi/9th Earth; KyuuKaze/9th Wind; 1024 seconds
JuuFaia/10th Flame; JuuMizu/10th Water; JuuTochi/10th Earth; JuuKaze/10th Wind; 2048 seconds
A mage can cast two spells at the same time, but the type of spell must be different. The mage cannot cast one spell first then the other while he is on cooldown. For example, a mage cannot use SanFaia while on cooldown for GoMizu, but he can cast SanFaia at the same time as GoMizu. The cooldown of using both spells at once was equivalent to the cooldown of the higher spell. Using two spells alters the property of the spell; for instance, casting SanFaia with GoMizu will produce Haze.
The ability to use magic is inherited from both sides but is dominated mostly by the paternal side.
Magic Academies – A magic academy is a place to nurture young, promising mages to become future talents. The requirement to study at a magic academy is the ability to wield magic. There are two magic schools in Tokyo, both being government funded.
Magic Clans – There are four main magic clans, each for their own magic specialty. Under them are branch clans, which wield lower tiers of their magic specialty. Essentially, magic clans can be viewed as a tree diagram. In the mid-to-low tiers, there are links between the specialties of clans, causing a hybrid of magic specialization. There are multiple tiers for each clan; for the first tier, there is only one clan for each kind of magic; for the second tier, there are two; and so on.
Magic Chess – A magic chess, or magic duel, has various formats: singles, doubles, tag team, etc. The rules of all of them are generally the same: a competitor is deemed to have lost if they are fatally wounded, knocked out, or have surrendered. A duel can be started when two students register their battle through the system. If a fight is started without registration, it is deemed illegal and may lead to expulsion if the result of the duel instigates bad press or causes irreversible injuries or death. Magic duels are performed on a chess-like battlefield, which thus birthed the name "Magic Chess". The arena where competitors duel has the same squares as a chess board and has special mechanics.
(Writer's Note: Will be explained later in the story)
Humans - Non-magicians
The balance between humans and magicians – Even though magicians can wield magic, they cannot overpower the humanitarian forces and become the major power. As magic is cooldown-based, they cannot win against artillery. There will never be a point where magicians can eliminate the human population unless artillery ceases to exist, and as long as humans exist, artillery will be there.
Magic – A human can gain the ability to wield magic if either one of their parents can wield magic, or if they are lucky, as that is how the first human got magical abilities. The ability to wield magic appears within a child at the age of five when they undergo a ceremony. In this ceremony, the child has the choice whether to gain magic or not, at the cost of something important to them as a human. Therefore, in that sense, magicians are not considered to be human, as in exchange to have superior abilities, they trade off something dear to them, namely an emotion.
Hitotsu (火トツ) – The highest-tiered clan that specializes in fire magic in the magic community. Their clan leader can wield 10th-tier magic, which is essential to the community. Currently, the clan has two offsprings and one of them is due for succession once the current leader retires. Due to following the tradition of how magic is inherited, the stronger offspring is usually the next successor, unless there are special circumstances.
Faker (Imitator) – An alias Rin is called by his father. It is used as an insult towards him but he considers it somewhat of a compliment.
