Chapter 1 - Breakup

Anita had been in love with her boyfriend for four years. Eric, who had long hair and was holding a guitar when they first met, won her heart.

It was just that after the two of them started living together, Anita had always prioritized her boyfriend and had always been preparing for their future.

However, she didn't expect to see Eric packing when she returned home from work. Anita went forward and asked, "Eric, are you going out?"

Eric didn't answer. He glanced at Anita, then picked up his freshly packed luggage and prepared to leave.

At this moment, Anita really realized that something was wrong. She hurriedly went forward and pulled her boyfriend back. "What are you doing?"

Her boyfriend turned to look at her hand and frowned. "Anita, I'm going to pursue my dreams. Let's break up."

"Break up?" The word hit Anita like a thunderbolt. She started to mumble, "Why, Eric? I've never stopped you from pursuing your dreams. I'll support you no matter what. Can we not break up?"

Looking at Anita, he felt even more impatient. "Anita, to be honest, I want to break up with you because I really can't stand you anymore. You're so controlling and bossy." As he spoke, he even reached out his hand to pry Anita's hand away.

"You even asked me to deposit money in a joint account. I really don't want my freedom to be restricted. Let's break up!" Eric's words made Anita's hand immediately loosen.

When Eric saw that Anita had let go, he picked up his bag, which had fallen to the ground, and walked out.

Eric walked away without even looking back.

Anita had been sitting on the cold floor all night, and she kept asking herself, 'Why? Was it because I didn't do enough? Was it because I was too bossy? But wasn't I doing this for the sake of our future?'

The next day, just after dawn, Anita's alarm rang. For her future with her boyfriend, Anita got a part-time job at a convenience store while studying for her PhD.

For the sake of her livelihood, Anita had to get up and wash up before going to work.

When she reached her workplace, Anita was absent-minded. Just as she was tidying up the shelves, her phone rang. Anita thought that the message was her boyfriend asking for reconciliation, so she hurriedly took out her phone to look. Unexpectedly, it was a message from her and Eric's joint account. It showed that all their savings had been emptied.

"Hey, Anita, what are you doing? Get the stuff for the customer," the boss shouted from the side. "Hey, Anita, can you hear me?"

Hearing her boss' shout, Anita finally came back to her senses. She couldn't help but pinch her phone. Ignoring her boss's angry look, she said, "Boss, I want to go out for a while!" Without waiting for her boss to reply, she took off her work shirt and ran away, leaving her boss cursing angrily from behind.

Anita, who had always been thrifty, made an exception and took a taxi to Eric's new home today in order to see him as quickly as possible. Fortunately, she tactfully asked her friend for Eric's new address this morning.

The moment she got out of the car, Anita started knocking on Eric's door.

"Sweetheart, is that you?" Eric opened the door with an excited look on his face. He didn't expect it to be Anita, and his face fell. "What are you doing here? I thought we broke up."

Anita ignored Eric's greeting and attitude and asked, "Why did you take away all the money in our joint account? I was the one who deposited 70% of the savings."

"Oh, you mean the money? What's wrong with me taking some money after all the years I've been with you? And you're actually asking me for it? You're so petty," Eric said sarcastically.

These words were so infuriating that Anita's entire body trembled. "How much money have you deposited all these years? Give me back my share!" As she spoke, Anita reached out to pull Eric away.

However, she was flung away just as she touched Eric. "I'm warning you, don't do this, or I'll call the police. Let me tell you, you have a bad figure and horrible fashion taste. You're like an old lady. I feel disgusted when I see you. If not for the fact that you liked me so much, I would have dumped you long ago."

Without even looking at Anita, Eric turned around and closed the door before leaving. "I'm telling you, there's no money. If you want to wait, wait here."

Anita felt heartbroken from Eric's words. She stood at the door in a daze.

The phone in her pocket rang a few times before Anita finally noticed it. She pressed the answer button and the part-time convenience store owner's loud voice came through. "Anita, let me tell you, you're fired, and your half-month salary is gone!" The boss said angrily and immediately hung up.

Anita smiled bitterly. She lost her job and her boyfriend.
