Cameron's gaze then moved to her face. He could see traces of the turmoil she had been through, even in sleep. He whispered softly, "I'm so sorry, Ava. For everything."
As if sensing his presence, Ava stirred slightly but did not wake. Cameron took a deep breath, steeling himself. "I promise I'll make it right," he murmured, his voice barely audible. "For you and our baby."
Gently, Cameron held her hand, careful not to wake her. His heart ached as he looked at her, longing to have her back in his arms. He missed the warmth of her presence, the feel of her close to him. He wished he could make her sit on his lap, hold her tightly, and never let go.
But reality was harsh, and he knew he had a long way to go to earn back her trust.
