In a vast world, one could have already invented it, yet simply lacked the resources to even name such inventions to oneself.
Such knowledge didn't particularly need to be invented by humans themselves.
It could be off also, dryads who had been spending their whole lives within the forest, yet only one would be able to think of using the forest to create such material.
