I chewed on my fish, while my mind was still thinking about my identification.

But now that this "fish" had mixed into the crowd, if he didn't have any identification, it might affect his daily life.
He couldn't take any transport that required identification, like cruises, planes, trains, etc.
He could not take any technical tests for licenses, such as a driver's license.
Nor could he register to marry me and become my lawful husband.
