"Ginny, get away from the damn edge!" Her Mother's voice screamed as Ginny stood at the edge of a cliff. She wore a white dress that was loose enough to become an air balloon. She laughed at the sky as the wind hit her dress, she liked the feeling that it could blow her away in a second. She stared at the shimmering reflection of the sun on the ocean, it was blinding but she let eyes stare widely.
"I want to go there, Mama, I want to see the entire world and never look back. I want to fly, swim and run through every ocean and field of grass. I want to fight dragons and become a warrior and most of all, I never want to stop." She screamed back at her mother, a smile larger than the seas around her.
"Well get off the cliff, one day you'll be big enough to do everything you want to. For now, come here." Genevieve stared at her mother and wondered how a woman so beautiful had created her. Perfect leaf shaped eyes, her irises were dark brown but when the sun shone through them they turned into a beautiful honey. Her hair was dark as night and her skin was golden and tanned, it had seen the sun and been blessed by it. She wondered how she could look so different from her mother who, by anyone's standards, was one of the most beautiful women in the world.
As she stepped down from the cliff she jumped into her mother's arms with a grin spreading her cheeks. They laughed as they worked their way back to their cottage. It was small and a bit musty but it was home, home was her favourite place. She liked the way it always smelled like spices, the way every room had a shelf filled with plants and the way the lights could change colour. She hoped that one day she could live in a bigger house, that was less musty, but have the same smells and sounds and lights. She wished to stay with her mother forever, just the two of them.
Too bad life never works out the way you want.
