Prolog
Where was I?
I could see an unfamiliar ceiling through my faintly opened eyes.
Then, I heard a loud voice ringing in my ears.
Wasn't that a voice of a crying baby?
There weren't any kids among my acquaintances, thus I wouldn't have that much chance to hear a crying baby…
Rather, what happened?
The next thing to do would be getting up and starting to move, as I already woke up.
I usually got up by leaning on my arms.
Yet, contrary to my will, I wasn't able to get up at all.
Also, I couldn't help but feel that my thoughts were somehow unclear, like my head was muddled.
Perhaps I ran into an accident?
I didn't remember clearly, but maybe I was injured from the accident and wasn't able to move?
If that was the case, the dull feeling in my head might be the after-effect of the accident.
But then, where was I?
If I got into an accident just like I assumed, this place should be a hospital.
However, it didn't seem like it.
After all, the ceiling and walls that I had seen since earlier were awfully dirty.
Though, it wouldn't be correct to call it dirty.
The wallpaper didn't get any stain, or looked faded over the years.
From what I saw, the wall itself was made of soil.
Moreover, the wall surface was bumpy, like it had been scraped off here and there.
"Oh my. Are you hungry?"
Right then, I heard an unknown voice going through my ears.
I quickly turned around to the source of the voice.
I could see the figure of a person running over to me.
That person came closer, and I could finally see her face.
A woman.
A beautiful young woman in her twenties, at that.
I was startled for a moment.
However, that woman instantly blew away my delusion.
"Illuminate."
Because, what that woman did in front of me was completely out of my expectation.
The moment that woman uttered a word with her index finger pointed, a sphere of light appeared from her fingertip and floated in the air.
It ain't hospital!
Another world, duh!!
I unconsciously made a tsukkomi [1] with Kansai dialect [2] that I wouldn't usually use. But, no need to worry about that.
At this point, I finallyunderstood my situation.
This place wasn't Japan nor the earth that I knew.
At least, this was a world where magic existed.
Furthermore, the crying voice that I heard all this time was apparently my own.
In other words, I reincarnated to another world.
Thus, the curtain of my new life had just opened.
