The cold breeze of the night was different that time. There was a calmness, a gentle moist scent that soothed out the wrinkles of time. There was the promise of good rain, and Azuma wondered if that was the reason he felt so… light.
His gaze was blank as he watched the kitten cautiously come out to sniff the chocolate bar. One by one, the other two also popped their heads out.
Then, a small noise.
All the kittens cowered back inside the box in fear. Their wide innocent peered out at something unknown.
Azuma whispered without looking back, "You have hesitated for too long to kill me now."
His gaze followed the one curious kitten who slowly came out and sniffed the chocolate.
"That thing is harmful to the cats."
The feminine voice was as unexpectedly cold and distant, as the response she made.
