Saki softly opened her eyes.
They were calm and unreadable, but subtle darkness stirred within. Her body was tense, and her insides felt drenched in cold molten led.
How long had it been?
She lost the count a long time ago.
But each night, she dreamed those same recurring moments. She would dream of a distant time when she was a young child.
There was a girl around her same age.
Both of them were twins, and they were happy.
It was the only happy memory she had.
Everything else in her dreams carried glimpses of the past stained in blood. Too many people have died way too easily.
Saki got down from the bed and poured herself a glass of water. Her body greedily accepted it, as the water washed down some of her empty hollowness.
A small buzz came from her phone.
Saki quietly stared at it for a minute and then walked out to the balcony.
