Chapter 1 - Understanding True Love

*Yawn*

It was another day at work. I stretched my limbs, worried that they might have atrophied. I looked around me to notice that all the work stations around me had cleared out.

A solitary lamp on my desk illuminated my vicinity.

Finding myself alone and all to myself, I couldn't help but recall the words of Racer.

"Are f*cking kidding me? You do overtime every weekend just for fun. Man, you seriously need to get a life is working is leisure for you."

'You seriously need to get a life. You seriously need to get a life. You - '

I didn't know why but Racer's words kept echoing in the hollows of my brain. What could I do, being at home on a weekend?

I don't have a TV because its too distracting. I don't have a PC because why would I need one, if I had one in the office. I don't have a microwave- Huh?

Why don't I have a microwave? I wanted to give a reason for not buying one. But no matter how much the gears behind my brain shifted, I couldn't come up with a valid reason.

That's when I knew what I had to do in order to get the life that Racer talked about. I had to just get a microwave oven. That's it.

Haha, I guess I was just born intelligent. After all I have an IQ of 150.

Let's go back home and order a microwave online.

"Hmhm..."

Humming with the revolving bike keys in my finger I walked out of the office. But that's when I suddenly felt a chill down my spine. A bad premonition.

I slowly turned around and braved to look at this source of animosity and hostility. It was there a large cubical shaped object that lay still on the black tiled platform of the kitchen area. A single line of light coming out of it. I knew I had now come face to face with my mortal enemy in this world.

The Coffee Machine.

I had made it a mission in my daily schedule to everyday while leaving the office I'll make sure to fight it once.

The line of light in the dark and gloomy background gazed into my eyes. They carried a hint of superiority and haughtiness in their air. I was sure that it was smirking at me, provoking me to come to him and once again taste the defeat.

With shaky steps I slowly braved forward.

Reaching it, I brought my left hand out of my pocket and in a swift singular motion I touched it. I touched the demon. I pressed the button and immediately withdrew my hand out of the maw of that wild animal.

"Humm...." It made the weird noises as it had done yesterday. I waited patiently and prepared myself to receive its attack.

And then it started. The attack came in waves. First the aroma, the deadly poison called coffee's aroma spread throughout the room. I knew that it was coming already so I had prepared myself by pinching my nose with my fingers.

Though it pained me a little. In the end it would all be worth it.

Then the second wave came, a stream of dark black miasma flooded the paper cup underneath the coffee machine.

After the flood of black miasma had filled the cup to the brim. The coffee machine beeped. It invited me with a sound as if telling me that it's attack was ready.

Gulping. I looked at the black miasma in the cup.

Still pinching my nose, I held the cup in my hand.

The third wave finally came, the heat wave. The most deadly attack. When faced with the heat attack before, I was caught by surprise and had ended up throwing the black miasma away. But after practicing for hundreds of days my hands could now easily withstand the heat. I was proud of both of them.

Without wasting anymore time, i poured the burning black liquid down my throat in one go.

*Gulp* *Gulp* *Gulp*

I gulped the coffee down. But the attack was far from over. My face was overcome by a tumult of emotions. The expressions on my face changed with the passing time. I bit of my tongue, so that even if I was tempted, I wouldn't say it.

'Wouldn't say it... wouldn't say it... wouldn-

"SO BITTER!!!!!"

My worst fears were unlocked. I had tasted defeat once again. I-I just couldn't anymore. The words that were so powerful and supreme ended up smashing out of my teeth once again.

I smiled at my pathetic self with pity.

"Hah! I guess I'll never win in this lifetime."

And as if the words were a declaration to the gods. With a defeaning crack, a streak of blue lightning fell down on me.

It took everything inside me to not curse when in the pain of being struck by lightning. I mouthed my last words of my life.

'You didn't taste so bad this time.'

I looked at the intact and untouched coffee machine beside me. I truly hoped that maybe in the next life we'll become the best friends. I wanted to hope so, even though I knew my words were futile now. I just wanted to say what a journey it had been and give it a warm hug.

Tears escaped from the corner of my eyes.

Love. Yes the foreign sentiment that I had always yearned for. I think I had finally found it. I could feel the warm feelings buzzing in my heart ( or they were just the traces of lightning left). Though it was not that long, I shall carry these feelings to my grave.

My first and last love. Coffee. It is about time that I leave. I can feel it coming. The light beyond the mortal world. The light of the afterlife.

And... Three words in front of my eyes said everything that I wanted to know...

[You are dead.]

***

A/N: Here, take this handkerchief and wipe away your tears.

Though you may already know this but this couple, they were a match made in heaven.

Separated by lightning, they will again meet and move the heavens with their love and inspire the whole mankind.
