"RAY!" Meghan yelled from beside him.
Ray looked at her in confusion before his gaze was diverted to the rear view mirror. He saw several more of the Deathless children gathering behind, their backs hunched and their mouths opened in the direction of the car. Ray's heart almost leapt out of his throat as he realized what they were about to do. In a state of panic, he stepped on the accelerator. The car shot forward, heading straight for the granite wall of the house in front of them.
"What are you doing!?" Meghan said as she gasped from the sudden motion.
Ray knew that merely slamming down the breaks wouldn't be enough to stop the car. So he quickly tilted the steering wheel to the extreme right while simultaneously pulling up the handbrake. The car turned in a ninety degree angle and went skidding towards the wall, stopping just barely a few inches away from it.
