Chapter 1 - Prologue

'The town! If I can get there...if I can just.'

Muffling an instinctive shout, she fell forward as the roots of a nearby tree snagged her hurting feet. She quickly braced the fall with her bare hands, which dug into the wet earth, pressing hard against sharp stones and small pieces of broken twigs.

"Shit,"

She hissed, frightened almost to death at the time she had lost by tripping.

'Fucking..shittiest vacation ever.'

She cursed, propping herself back up, only to feel a sharp jab in her right leg.

"Shit, shit...shit,"

Swearing didn't change anything, but it certainly helped her relieve the smothering tension that ceased her breath, and made her chest painfully constrict.

AWOOOOOOOOOO!

The howl cut through the midnight sounds like a hot knife, right through butter. Her head went blank for a moment as fear overwhelmed her, clouding her senses and judgement.

'Get up dammit.,' She screamed at her shivering, disobedient body.

' I can't die here. Have to reach the town. I have to.'

Against the limits of her strength, and the pain that threatened to pull her right leg apart, the young woman got back up on her feet, and ran like bloody hell.

AWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Another howl resonated through the forest, tugging at her heart strings, like that of a puppet. This howl in particular, was more menacing than the first, and it sounded far too close for comfort.

'God please, am almost there...I don't want to die.'

She didn't dare turn around, aside from the crippling dread that numbed her senses, and her dirt stained face that twisted from exertion. The horrific scenes of her death flashed in her head, over and over again as she neared the edge of the forest, and it was more than enough motivation to quicken her stride.

But unfortunately, her body had reached its limits.

Just few paces shy of the towns main road, which was lined with multiple streetlights, that gleamed brightly of orange, and held the hope of her survival...

She collapsed headfirst, and hit the ground...hard. Her head abruptly collided with the sharp edge of a rock that was wedged into the forest floor, and her body went limp.

Just before losing hold on consciousness, her eyes met a pair of terrifying yellow ones that belonged to one of her many pursuers, and a final thought crossed her mind.

'Shittiest vacation ever Carrie."
