The world holds mysteries… no not this one, but another one. A world that is said to be capable of harbouring life just like the earth, but its inhabitants are unlike that of ours… their people while similar to humans were called Trixes and their animals were far more viscous than ours, they were called Trishibeasts.
The people of Trish had created a kind of sports that revolved around the Trishibeasts for game purposes, something that the people of Earth had decided to partake in after they had decided to explore the world.
Over the course of the coming years, the games had spread. It was called the TrishiLeague and slowly the games, albeit a lower scaled one was being played on Earth. It was everyone's dream to partake in this game and one day make it to the major leagues on the planet Trish.
It was everyone's dream and such was the dream of Alexander Kai. He wanted the glory of being the best, the Trish Champion, the master of all beasts. Well, he was now fourteen years and was qualified to take on the national league in his country. Today he would join the rest of the world in the TrishiLeague.
He was a fair skinned boy with green eyes and brown hair with slight spikes. An alarm went off. It was seven in the morning and it was just about time for Kai to be heading to the center where he would pick a beginning trishibeast. These were special beasts that had been bred by specialists and have had their aggressive temperaments removed from an early age. They were perfect for people with no knowledge on the beast. Luckily for Kai, his father was a scientist and one of the leads in Trishibeasts on the planet, so he had a little bit of knowledge concerning the beasts and the games.
Preparing himself, he now wore a black hoodie over a red t-shirt and black combat trousers. On his neck was a necklace with a planet symbol and he wore black fingerless gloves. On his feet he wore black sneakers with blue highlights. Smiling to himself, he headed downstairs and ate his breakfast that had been prepared by his mother.
"Good morning mom," he said when he saw her. She was fair skinned with brown hair just like him. She had Jade green eyes and tied her hair up in a ponytail. She wore a blue top under a white jacket that was held by a rope at the waist and tied into a simple knot. She wore blue jean trousers and a sandal. On her left hand was her wedding ring and on her right a black leather watch and bracelet.
"Good morning Kai," she said as she kissed his forehead. "How are you?"
"I'm good. Where's dad?"
"He's out back, preparing the place for when you start catching trishibeast."
"Oh… so you will be the one driving me today." It wasn't a question.
At that moment, the doorbell rang. "Who's that?"
"It must be Dan," his mom said. She went to the door and opened it to reveal a boy that was the same age as Kai. He had blond spiky hair and blue eyes. He wore a dark blue hoodie and black trousers. Under the hoodie he wore a black vest and black sneakers with red highlights. A black belt to hold his trousers and blue fingerless gloves.
"Good morning Mrs. Alexander," the young boy greeted cheerfully.
"Good morning Dan," she greeted back with a smile. "Kai is in the kitchen."
Instantly the blond made a beeline for the kitchen, eager to meet his best friend and rival as they begin their journey.
"Hey Kai," he said as he saw the familiar brown hair that was trademark of the Alexander family.
"Waddup Dan," the other boy greeted with a smile.
"You ready?"
"Ready as I'll ever be." Kai was just about done stuffing his face with food.
"Ok boys," his mum said as she walked in. "Shall we get on our way?"
They nodded and followed after her. Getting into the car, Kai and Dan couldn't help but talk about the possibilities of the respective beast that they could get. Trishibeasts were unique. Each Trishibeast possessed two different sets of attributes. The first set was elemental in nature and directly affected the personality of the beast more so than the other one. They were nine in number. The other set was evolutionary in nature and affected the beasts in a more species wise behaviour and these ones were not defined in number, they were a lot that had been discovered and they expected it to increase, maybe. The attributes contributed to their power and respective abilities. The elemental attributes were fire, water, earth, wind, lightning, plant, dark, light and energy. The basic five were fire, lightning, wind, water and earth. Those were the ones that were given to beginning trainers while the second set of attributes were selected at random.
It didn't take long for them to arrive at the city center where they would be given their Trishibeast.
"I'll be out here," Kai's mom said. "Both of you go get them."
They nodded and went inside. There where fifty recognized centers in his country, one in each state. They lived in New York so theirs was at the Mayor's Office. There were a total of thirty kids at the office. Everywhere around the world, fourteen year old kids were receiving their Trishibeasts today and here was no exception.
It didn't take long before the Mayor walked in to address the kids.
"Good morning everyone."
"Good morning," the kids replied.
"As you all know, today is the start of your journey as Trainers. You all are to embark on a journey of self-discovery. I won't be saying much because you lot have passed the Trainer's examination. So anyway, getting the pleasantries out of the way," he gestured to a table before him that had thirty sphere-like objects.
"These are Trishispheres. Each of them contains one Trishibeast that has been tamed, perfect for beginners like you all. You're to each step forward in order of your registration to claim one of them for yourselves. Remember, they will most likely become your lifetime partners so choose well. Okay, let's begin."
One by one each of them went forward to claim the spheres containing the majestic beasts.
After eighteen kids had gone, it was now Dan's turn. He walked up to survey the table. There were twelve spheres left. A pattern representing the respective elemental attribute was on the sphere something that appeared so long as the beast had been caught in it.
He surveyed them and finally his eyes rested on a sphere with wavy patterns. He was well aware that each of the trishibeast was unique for every kid in a state at a given time, meaning that so long as they were from the same state and received their trishibeast around the same time, then they would not have the same trishibeast.
He chose it and walked backwards. Two more kids went and it was Kai's turn. He had his mind set on a lightning attribute beast and seeing as only one was left behind, he chose it.
"Now that the choices have been made," he snapped a finger and a lady pushing a cart walked in and began handing a device to each kid. "Those are Trishex, devices that you can use to keep track of your journey. They are highly resistant but still, endeavour to keep them safe from damage. They will prove to be highly beneficial to you."
Kai looked at the Trix. They were kind of like a gauntlet watch of some sort and were highly valuable. They served as Trainer IDs and had other sort of functions. Attached to the Trishex was a manual for operation.
"Okay… you are to activate your Trishex by yourself when you go back home. That will be all, do us proud in your respective ways. Good day young ones." With that he left.
Kai turned towards Dan and called the boy. They were heading back to his mom. They needed to prep themselves for the journey ahead. Before he left, he caught sight of a girl with blonde pigtails and bright golden eyes.
"Hey mom," Kai called as he and Dan came outside.
"Welcome back," she said. "How was it?"
They responded by raising their hands showing the spheres they had with them.
"That's nice, lightning attribute and water attribute. So… what are you waiting for, let them out."
Dan tapped the release button on his trishisphere, "Come on out."
Blue light burst forth from the sphere and shown bright. It soon began to take the form of a beast, growing until it matched the size that represented the trishibeast. The light died down and they found themselves face-to-face with a small reptile-like beast. It was primarily a sea blue colour with an extended jaw, aside from that there were no major differences. Its tail was as long as its body if not longer and its eyes were red and they looked intimidating. At that exact moment, a small forked tongue came out of its mouth as it looked around before resting on the ground with a huff. Its movement looked almost too mechanical to be considered a living creature.
"Wow," Kai's mom said. "An Anodo, interesting choice." Honestly she didn't know what else to say as she observed the little guy. "What about you Kai?" she said as she turned towards her son.
Kai nodded as he released his own trishibeast. The light morphed until it slowly took the shape of something bipedal and also reptilian like. The light died down and revealed a small reptile that stood up to Kai's knee. It had blue eyes and white scales with small spines going round the bark. By its side was a light blue lightning bolt symbol and it had a black underbelly. A weird colouration if it is anything to go by. Its hands extended to reveal a single three claws that were set in a kind of circular manner. It made a small whining sound as it got out.
"A Pule, quite rare even amongst the rare ones and I am surprised that they even had one here. Both are very fine specimens that evolve into powerful beasts. Well anyway we should get going so your dad can see you guys."
Both boys nodded as they returned their beasts and got into the car. Without wasting time they turned on their Trishex to configure them.
The machines beeped to life, revealing the large screen surface. On the screen where the words "Enter trainer ID."
Kai and Dan typed in their respective trainer IDs and the Trishex responded accordingly. It took a few seconds before the device completed the first configuration, taking on their names and details as it activated. To make sure everything was intact, Kai and Dan swiped the screen.
Standard Trishex were expected to contain four vital information or rather menus: Trainer Index, basically containing everything a trainer needs to know about themselves as regards the TrishiLeague; Tools that contained what a trainer needed while on the go or on a journey; Trishipedia containing everything as pertains to the world of the trishibeast and Settings. Seeing as they were all intact, the boys turned the device off.
Reaching the house, Kai's Dad was already waiting for them.
"So how was it?" he asked as he walked up to them.
"It went well," Kai's mum said. Her smile said it all.
He nodded. "Well let's go in and get you guys set up and ready for your journey then." A bright smile was on his face as he said this. He had high hopes for them.
Both boys nodded as they followed him into the house, the man himself talking beside his wife as they entered into the Living area. The Living room was large but it wasn't that large that they wouldn't be able to spot an addition to the room and that was what they noticed. Items were laid out on a table in the center.
First of all, there were about eight Trishispheres laid out on the table. Trishispheres were essential in capturing Trishibeast. Trishibeast were composed off a core that was the source of all their energy. The core resonated with the Trishisphere and that was what allowed them to be caught by the spheres. The spheres were primarily white in colour and only changed their colour when they identified the core of a certain Trishibeast. This is because trishispheres were mined or more like their major constituents was special crystals that were only found on Trish. These crystals have an effect on Trishibeast and the resulting manufacturing of these crystals as a source allowed for Trishibeasts to be stored in ball form or spheres.
They were a necessity for trainers to have. Basically a standard Trishibeast battle consisted of a five-versus-five match and without these special spheres, one would not be able to catch Trishibeast.
"You each get four trishispheres."
Both kids nodded. Their eyes diverted to the laptop that was open in front of them. They had no idea what was being displayed on the screen because honestly, tech was not their forte. "Hand over your Trishex."
Both kids paused for a second before releasing the devices from their wrists and handing them over to Kai's Dad.
He took the devices and smiled for a bit before connecting them to his system. "Honestly I wasn't originally planning on doing this but, I'll just do it. Normally, the Trishex are purely prototypes and can be expanded by installing external drives virtually unto their interface. Normally it costs money to install but I so happen to still have access to some tools so I figured that I'll just install it. What I am giving you is basically going to be basically call function and video mode. The rest you'll either pay money for or if you do well in the league, they'll grant you access to it."
As soon as he was done he handed it over to them. There were two bags on the table, one black with white highlights and the other red with blue highlights. Kai's was the black one and Dan's was the red one.
"Here are your bags," he said as he tossed it towards them. "I think that should be all. Oh and please note that the Trix contains entry on each and every species of Trishibeast in existence and more are being added. Use that as an opportunity to learn about each species so that you at least have an understanding of them in case you face them."
He paused when he noticed his wife's eyes slowly begin to water. "Elizabeth… don't show weakness to them…" his voice was also breaking as he said this.
"What? I'm not crying," she said as she turned her head away. "Leave me alone Hart, and besides you should worry about yourself."
"Don't worry mom," Kai said with a smile. "We will be fine, after all we are old enough to look after ourselves."
"Yep Mrs. Alexander… I'll look after Kai."
"Oh you shut up."
"Now, now," Hart said as he broke their fight before it started. "Okay… I think you guys best be on your way. I would have preferred you guys stay close, but you won't get more experience that way. The house is always open to you all. The Tournament officially begins tomorrow so you guys should best get started with training in the meantime you guys should get registered."
Picking up their things, Kai and Dan walked out of the house before smiling and turning around. Their huge grins said it all. They would be back after they'd conquered the league. Before that though, they'd head over to Dan's house to say their goodbyes. After all, the Alexander's and the Watson's have known each other a long time. Apparently, Kai's dad and Dan's dad had been together in their college years and the friendship had since bloomed.
It didn't take long before they reached Dan's house which was just a cab ride away.
"I'm home," Dan said as he opened the door and walked in, Kai following close behind. As soon as they entered the house, they heard hurried footsteps and soon, Dan was tackled to the ground. "Anna," he said as he held his little sister. She had blonde hair that reached above her waist and blue eyes. "Is mum around?" he asked.
The little girl nodded and bounded forward heading towards the kitchen, both boys following after her. Soon they were in the kitchen and preparing breakfast in front of them was Dan's mother. She looked exactly like her daughter, only bigger and more… mature.
"Hey mum," Dan called out to the woman.
"Good morning Mrs. Watson," Kai said with a smile as he gave a mock salute.
She smiled and walked up to the both of them. "Look at my little men," she said as she gave them a hug.
"We're not little anymore," Dan said as he wobbled himself against her hug. "We're about to go on a journey of course we are no longer babies."
She smiled and thumped his head lightly. "Your dad has already left for work so he won't see you of, but aside from that we'll be with you when you duke it out at the leagues by the end of this year."
"No problem mum… we'll take care now." As Dan said this he checked the time on his Trix and motioned to Kai.
The boy nodded and smiled at Dan's mum. She understood what they were making out and turned to Anna. "Your big bro's about to leave for his Trishibeast journey."
Anna nodded. "I know… I will definitely miss Dan but it is for the best."
"See I told you that she'll understand," he said with a smile.
With that, he and Kai were already heading towards the door. "Hold on a minute young man… what's the plan for your journey."
Dan paused a bit before turning towards Kai for help. "According to Trishipedia, there are seven places where we can earn Trishiums and qualify for the league and one of them is in New York, specifically New York City. That would be our first stop and as for the other six, we may just wing it. Of course we will get to training in between." With that Kai and Dan waved goodbye and left the Watson household.
-Break-
Kai and Dan had made their way to the Trainer Lounge. The Trainer Lounge was a set of buildings that were erected in support of the Trainers. There was one in each state, large enough to accommodate an influx of trainers and to an extent their trishibeast. They offered a variety of services and were especially known for their healing services and served as a hotel for trainers.
They walked up to the nurse that was at the counter. The nurse was usually in charge of the services that were going on in the building. "Good morning," she said as she greeted them.
"Good morning ma'am," they both said as they responded to her.
"My name is Dan and this is my friend Kai… we were hoping to register for the National League this year."
"That won't be a problem… give me your Trishex." And with that she began to type at the computer in front of her. They handed over their devices and without wasting time, she was done with it. "There you go… You're both registered for the National League." she handed over their Trishex and smiled. "Would that be all?"
Dan was about to say yes but Kai nudged him and spoke up. "We'd like a room to spend a night or two if that's okay?"
"Of course, the lounge so long as rooms are available to trainers around the world and they are free so they won't charge you anything. Your Trillars are safe." Her smile was genuine as she said this.
"Thank you. We'd like a room for two if that's okay and also… are the training rooms available?"
"Yes," she said as she arranged a room for them and gave them the directions for the training room. The building was relatively large and was able to accommodate all of these sections easily. The training area was divided into two areas. One was indoors and the other was outside, mainly used for practicing with large teams and maybe practicing uncontrollable attacks, because obviously, damage to the building would be paid for by the assailant.
"Thank you," Kai said as he took the card keys from the nurse and dragged Dan along. The Lounge had thirty rooms in total for the trainers and theirs was the fifteenth room.
"It would be best if we dropped off our things before going to train." And they did just that. The room was nice, pretty standard, but nice. It was meant to remind trainers that they were on a journey and not relaxing.
Only dropping off their bags and grabbing their trishibeast, they made their way to the training room. The number of training rooms depended on the size of the lounge in question. This lounge had about three rooms altogether and both Kai and Dan were at the second one. Upon entering, they had split themselves up and went to different sections of the room. Kai was currently with Pule. He had the beast released from its confines as he introduced himself to it.
Pule had actually taken a kind of interest to Kai and was listening to every word that he spoke. The breeders had done a good job with it. The boy turned to his Trix. The device was a trove of information and one that was very valuable for trainers, possessing the accumulation of many decades of research. He pointed the device at Pule and powerful scanners went to work. They picked up on Pule's genetic code and broke it down before revealing his species. All these happened in less than a second and Pule's file was pulled up on the screen, alternatively he could just swipe the list until he found Pule's database but that was no fun.
Pule had the attribute Lightning and Lizard. There were nine attributes in total at least the elemental ones. A Trishibeast almost usually had two attributes, the first one being elemental of some sort and the second part of the attribute was similar to their composition as beasts like in Pule's case, its composition was based off of a lizard or to be more precise a crocodile, but we all know that they are basically overgrown lizards. Usually when they grew, their attributes tended to change, but there have been cases where attributes branch to become double, currently Pule had a singular attribute. A double attribute would be two elemental ones and two composition ones while both of either one was referred to as a hybrid attribute.
Another fun thing to know was that Pule was also a male. Now this Kai was happy for, because for some reason he didn't want to start dealing with a female beast right off the bat. With a smile, he turned towards the beast who had been staring at him this entire time.
"So… Pule I understand that you are a boy. Would you like a nickname at least to differentiate you from others of your species?"
Kai watched as the little lizard seemed to ponder about the words that were spoken by Kai and after some seconds, he nodded his head.
Now that that was out of the way, there came the next problem, what kind of name he would give him? Kai placed a finger on his chin as he thought for a while. Pule was lizard-like and had the element of lightning. A couple of names were going through his head and he ran them by Pule. Shock, Stun, Volt but all of them were rejected, until…
"Apex?"
Pule paused for a moment and nodded in acceptance… he was a proud beast so the name was fitting.
Usually a person who had just captured a new beast would have to put in some extra work to teach some moves especially if it was a young one. Luckily for Kai, his was trained by breeders so that took care of that in the meantime and the Trix also had an idea of the moves that a beast could perform if scanned long enough and that was what Kai was doing.
From the feedback on the Trix, Apex knew slash, scratch, burrow, tail swipe and stalk. He also had the moves lightning pulse and lightning armour bred into him. Kai smiled, the breeders must have done a good job.
"Okay Apex, let's see what you got." He opened the move index that had records of all the moves Trishibeasts have ever used and he got an idea of what they were. "Use scratch," he said as he watched the lizard.
Scratch was as simple as the name implied. A simple scratch with the claws was all that was needed. It required very little to no preparation and Kai could see that now Apex was swiping his claws at a fast pace and moving ever so slightly.
"That's enough," he said and Apex stopped, feeling pleased with himself. "Now let's see your slash attack."
As he said this, Apex paused and focused before swiping his right arm. Kai could notice that the tip of his claws were glowing. That was some power he noted in his head. The Trix hadn't lied. Pule and their evolutions were very strong and quite balanced. "Impressive… tail swipe now."
Apex paused as he turned with a full form, swinging his tail around. Kai could feel a slight breeze from the simple swipe of Apex's tail. The other two moves he wouldn't be able to have them practice it now because burrow may just damage the ground and he didn't have money to pay for anything. All he had was five hundred. The other move was stalk and it increased the accuracy of the beast in question… so that was a no no.
"Okay," Kai said as he looked at Apex. One important thing his dad had taught him was that it was in his best interest that his beast listens to him, so there was an exercise that was required to be performed, and that was him calling out different attacks to Apex at top speed and the beast was expected to follow to the tee.
After explaining to the beast, Kai began to call out the attacks with an interval of five seconds in-between and Apex would try his best to follow the attacks, occasionally making some fumbles and mistakes and the likes, but they would work themselves through it.
After about twenty minutes non-stop, Kai stopped him. "That's enough. Looking good Apex," Kai said as he approached the young lizard. "Now let's work on your stats…" Kai fumbled a bit, looking at the data that had been accumulated over time. Health was something that grew as the beast grew, so it could not be directly influenced. Attack was something that he would work on as he practiced his moves. Defense could only be done or improved with battles and defense training that required the user to have more than one beast. The same was the case for external attack and defense and that left speed. "Okay Apex… let's see how fast you can move. To the other side and back till I say so."
Apex crouched slightly as he tensed his legs and shut forward. Kai watched him as he began to run back and forth from their part of the hall to the other side and then back, repeating the process over and over again. After about fifteen minutes, Kai stopped him and motioned for him to come and take a rest by his side.
Apex walked up to the teen and sat down by his side as Kai proceeded to tell him about his dream of being number one. He chose this tactic because according to the Trix, their family-line were obsessed with being at the top, that was primarily the reason why he gave him the name Apex. Kai's eyes darted over to Dan who was resting with Anodo on the other side of the room. 'Guess he's tired too' Kai thought to himself.
The league was in a year, so he basically had twelve months to practice and build up a team that would give everyone a run for their money. He wanted to ponder more about this but the doors to the room opened. A girl walked in and she was accompanied by a bipedal trishibeast.
The girl was blonde and had her hair in pigtails. The hair was quite silky. She had golden eyes and a fair skin. She wore a black skirt and blue top. Over her top was a short black leather jacket and on her feet were blue sneakers. Kai remembered seeing her when he and Dan went to get their trishibeast.
His eyes were now on the trishibeast beside her. It was about the same height as Apex. It had what looked like human hair atop its head and two short horns on the sides of its face. Slender arms with three claws and its legs end in stubs. On its hand and leg joints were small points and a long tail that split into two at the end. Its pupils were black and its irises were a flaming red, kind of similar to its skin tone.
They were currently the only ones in the room. Kai sat up a bit and aimed his Trishex at her and scanned the beast. It was called a Flamling and it was a fire and mystical attribute. According to the information he pulled up from the Trix, it was a rare beast, in fact most of the beasts the students were given were quite rare in that they couldn't be found in the wild on Earth but they had chances of being found on Trish.
Kai didn't say anything and just watched her practice. It was basically just her movements with her beast that she was trying to synchronise, calling out attacks similar to how Kai had done his. She's good Kai noted in his mind.
Apex nudged him as Kai was watching her and smiled deviously. Kai could get the general gist of it and blushed a bit before waving it off and proceeding to get back to his training. Dan was now asleep and so was Anodo.
Kai got up and began issuing commands one after the other to Apex and the lizard was executing them with ease at least more than before. "That's good," Kai said as he patted the lizard. "That was better than last time."
"Hi," Kai heard a voice behind him say. He turned around and met a girl, correction, the same girl that walked in with the Flamling. He even saw the beast by her side. "My name's Samantha and I am a beginner trainer just like you."
"Yeah I know… I saw you earlier today at the City center." She nodded. "My name's Kai and the little guy here is Apex."
Her face brightened up somehow. He named his trishibeast. "This here is Flamling, and if it isn't too much we'd like a battle to maybe get in the experience of what it is like just a bit."
Kai now had a huge grin on his face. "Funny you should ask… I have also been itching for a battle myself, to see what he's capable of." He wasn't lying because he was thinking of asking Dan for a battle when he woke up.
"That's great," Samantha said as she moved some ways backwards leaving some space between them to fight. "So who has the first move?"
"I believe its ladies first…"
"Are you ready Flamling?" she asked and the beast nodded. "Start off with barrage."
With a nod, Flamling ran forward, hands bawled into a fist. As its name suggests, barrage is simply a barrage of punches thrown at the target.
"Dodge it Apex." Apex moved his body out of the way as he dodged the first punch and then the second one and the one after that and the one after that. "Scratch."
Apex retaliated with his own form of barrage as he began scratching back matching Flamling's barrage. Kai watched and tried to think of a counter. "Dodge backwards and attack with slash."
Apex moved a bit backwards as he avoided a punch letting it pass as he charged a slash and nailed Flamling in the face, launching it backward. Sorry her.
"Step-up punch."
Flamling got up and quickly placed one foot forward and at an even faster pace, placed the other one while releasing a punch at Apex. Apex took the punch and was chucked backwards but Kai had other plans.
"Scratch again," Kai called out and Apex matched his call, attacking Flamling who also used barrage. Both were evenly matched but Kai had other plans. "Now use tail swipe."
Without wasting time, Apex blended the tail swipe into his movements as his tail slammed into Flamling and launched her backwards. "Go for a slash now."
Apex ran forward and charged up a slash and was about to hit Flamling. "I concede," Samantha said as she sighed. She knew that she had lost and had to accept that. Apex stopped just short of Flamling's face and the glow in his claws disappeared.
"Thanks for the battle Samantha," he said as he patted Apex. "And good job boy. You did well for your first battle."
"Don't mention it Kai. I had fun just as much as you did." She held Flamling in her arms and was smiling.
"So where are you going?" Kai asked.
"I will be staying here for a while and then I'll head to Central Park to maybe catch one more trishibeast."
"So I guess we will be seeing more of each other then… so how about we train together?"
Samantha smiled and nodded, but before that. "How about we heal them first before we get started with the training?"
Kai nodded and took the lead, heading out of the training room. He turned towards Dan and was about to wake him up but decided against it as he, Samantha and their trishibeast left the room.
