Brent's POV
When I skipped my morning jog and decided to stay home from work, I knew something was wrong. This was the first time in my life that I had missed either of them, and I couldn't figure out why. At the same moment when Lara seemed ready to give up on us, the delicious dinner she had prepared for us had made me fall for her many charms. The fact that she tore out my heart didn't change my mind about her desire for me. Her eyes told me all I needed to know. My new agony stemmed from having fallen in love with her as quickly as I had with Lily.
I was dying to have a woman over, but I'd tried it before and it hadn't worked out so well for me. Just to be sure, I checked the number out near my phone and then turned it over in my palms on the couch several times.
