Chapter 112 - The Truth of Destiny

(THEMES OF SENSITIVE TOPICS, SUCH AS SUICIDE, ARE DESCRIBED BELOW. IF YOU ARE NOT COMFORTABLE WITH READING, PLEASE SKIP AHEAD TO THE NEXT CHAPTER)

As soon as I walked into the bathroom and shut the door, I ended up on the roof of some building in the middle of the city.

There I go again, rapidly changing locations for different memories.

And there she was again. Destiny was there... and so was her father.

I was never really fond of her father, but he looked worse than he did before. He was scruffy, grey, and dirty like he hadn't showered in weeks... or months...

"Really? Why are you up here? You too weak to come back home and deal with me?" Destiny's father asked her.

"It's not that... you know what this is about." Destiny told her father while wiping tears from her eyes.

I wasn't sure what it was about the atmosphere I was intruding in... but it felt gross. It felt heavy on my lungs, and like sitting in the sun on a muggy day.

"You're too weak to survive in high school. I bully you to make sure you'll be okay. You know it's because I love you." Her father told her.

I tried to walk up to him and get between the two, but he didn't acknowledge me. And when I put my hand on his shoulder, it went straight through him. I was like a ghost to them. I could only watch.

"Is that why you forced me to move away from my best friend? So I could understand what it's like to be alone?! Because you hated high school so much that you think adjusting me to the pain would've helped me in the long run?!" Destiny began yelling now. I peered off the building's sides and saw people start to look up.

I began to put two and two together, and I could see the reason I never saw Destiny again was because of her father. He moved her away from me, all so she could understand how horrible high school was.

But something he never considered was how great those years would've been if he just left Destiny close to me.

It was very obvious that Destiny's mom cared a lot about me, and I wanted to marry Destiny one day. Her mom gave into my fantasies as well, but hearing that Destiny still cared about her 'best friend', or to simplify it, me, meant that she didn't forget about me either.

I know nothing about romance, but it didn't matter, as long as I was with her. I could learn it all... having that taken away from me made me so mad... and I felt it here now, learning the reason why she was taken from me.

"You do not understand how hard high school is for some kids. Now that you've experienced all of these things, you won't be hurt anymore! And for that, you're welcome." Her dad said.

As if we were in sync, both Destiny and I responded to him.

"Why can't you understand that you're in the wrong?"

"Why can't you understand that you're in the wrong?"

Her tone was a lot louder than mine, as I was still trying to understand everything as it was going on, but we said it at the same time.

"You'll thank me for what I've done to you one day. You will, I promise." Her dad said.

Now he was being unreasonable. He's so afraid of admitting that what he did was wrong, that he's trying to give himself high ground over his own daughter. What a piece of shit.

"You think I'll thank you? You promise? You obviously don't know why I'm up here." She said.

I felt a chill up my spine as I looked at Destiny. No... she's not...

I ran over to her and jumped over the railing by where she was standing and tried to grab onto her body. I tried her shoulders, her hands, and even her stomach.

"Destiny, don't do this!" I shouted out. I wanted her to hear me! Listen to me! Destiny!

"Are you serious?! You think committing suicide now will solve anything?! You'll pass that pain onto others! How selfish can you be?!" Her dad said.

He was right... she was trying to kill herself.

"Pass the pain to others? Being selfish? That's rich, coming from a dead-beat father who tried one of those things and who is the other. Maybe you won't mess up with my brother, but I wouldn't put it past you." Destiny said...

As her foot left the roof.

I tried. I grabbed her anywhere I could. But my hands went through her as the wind took her away from me.

Destiny almost floated in the air as she walked off the building with her eyes closed.

"DESTINY!!!" I shouted as loud as humanely possible.

LISTEN TO ME! DESTINY! I DON'T CARE IF YOU CAN'T HEAR ME, PLEASE!

Why won't she grab my hand?!

I was filled with enough despair to flood the city and I wanted it to be over as soon as possible... but it wasn't.

Falling from ten stories doesn't get rid of physics...

Destiny hit the ground, but she didn't splatter and died instantly. She bounced. She bounced as her head turned in an unnatural direction and the worry in her eyes shot me in the heart.

She didn't stay on the sidewalk either. When she hit the ground, some of her ribs pierced her body and she was punctured several times, and when she bounced into the street, she was hit by a car as well.

Like an insult to injury, made to make her father and me as angry as possible, the road and the people stopped to watch the blood flow out of her wounds and her organs splatter all over the road.

I fell backward and covered my mouth to keep the puke in, but I couldn't beat what my body wanted. I threw up on the roof of the building as her dad screamed out in a loud cry to bring his daughter back.

But his words already did their damage.

I was stuck, staring at the floor.

This is just a faked memory of course. That couldn't have happened to Destiny. After all, Papiya has full control of what I'm seeing. There's no telling whether something is fake or not.

I couldn't be sure, but what I saw felt so real, and it broke my heart in millions of pieces. Maybe it's because I used to love her, but watching that happen to her body... I couldn't even go back and look.

Of course, this is fake. Mom told me that Destiny's dad ended up dying before I was reincarnated as a Hero, and the fact he's still alive means this isn't real.

"Please leave a message at the beep." Her father's phone went off while attempting to call somebody. I turned back to look at him with a face full of disgust before he started talking.

"Hey, honey... it's me... um... I messed up... very badly... I'm sorry... I hope one day... you'll be able to forgive me..." He said.

My eyes grew wide as he walked off as well.

No way...

NO FUCKING WAY.

No... no no no... no... no... no... no...

No... that's... no... that's not what happened...

No... NO! NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!

You can't be serious... no... there's no way... he didn't die because of Destiny, did he?!

Why didn't she come back?! Where is she?!

No... she's not dead... Destiny isn't dead...
